Your assuming that just because you associate teams like Germany, Italy and France as being world beaters that gives them the god given right to be at the top.

This is the European Championships, and those teams dont deserve to seeded ahead of the champions just because you think they are better footballers.

Greece beat the best of the best
So you think Greece are currently the strongest side in Europe? Answer that for me please.

It's not me 'thinking' that Italy, France and Germany are better than Greece, there's no thinking needed on that one.

Also remember when we won the Champions League we expected to be seeded in the 3rd qualifier round, we were and it was to Everton's expense they got Villareal and we got someone ****. I thought that was fair enough.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        Naturally you would, you're scottish.

Greece arent currently one of the top 4 european nations, anyone who suggests otherwise is being silly.

The four seeds should be the best 4 sides - we can dispute who those are, but Greece certainly arent in the equation. Neither are Austria or Switzerland.

Takes a lot more to win the CL than the European Championships.

Beating the best sides over 2 legs is far more difficult than scraping through a group by playing 3 games, and then getting through 3 more games.

And when it came to the CL 3rd round qualifier, we were obviously one of the better sides, without debate.

Greece arent one of the top 4 sides in Euro 2008.

You want the best sides going through. If 3 of them are in one group, that's impossible.

I think it's good the hosts get seeded as look what happened in Korea and Japan the public went mental and it was amazing to watch, that wouldn't have happened if they went out in the group stages. It's all about trying to attract more football fans at the end of the day.

To me, major finals are about seeing the best sides come head-to-head and fighting it out for the trophy.

If Greece (for example) are so good, as people are suggesting, why cant they be in a group where they're not seeded and qualify from it?

DJS they are the champions. Opinions dont count.

Otherwise if i was the Head of Uefa i would seed scotland because i felt like it.

Doesnt matter what you or anybody else THINKS.

Greece are the champs and they beat everybody that was put before them. They cant do much more than that. Nobody beat them

How about Italy. They're the WORLD champions. And they won it more recently.

                  How about that then?

At the end of the day you would expect England to seeded if they won it in 2004 With the seeds being as they are it means that Greece, Austria and Switzerland are going to get at least one if not two of the European big boys in there group so I think the seeding means **** all.

As i said before, seeds should be the best sides.

Anyone who thinks Greece, Austria and Switzerland are 3 of the best teams in europe, needs their head looking at.

England didn't even qualify for the 94 world cup, I am not sure how they did in Euro 92 so can't comment. I am sure they were seeded for Euro 96 cause they were hosts. I think it is a very fair system. Also don't worry about it if the European big boys are so good they will qualify no problem

Take your point on the hosts being seeded.

But then again they haven't had any competitive matches as they've qualified by being hosts, so it would be unfair to penalise them wouldn't it?

Greece are defending champions, or course they should be seeded first, in fact they shouldn't have had to qualify IMO. They should've been in automatically. Hate that rule change. If you win it you earn the right to defend it.
                              I hate Polanski

What's 1996 seedings got to do with this?

And who says i was campaigning for england to be seeded in 1996 anyway?

They got to the semi finals mind. And had a tough group too, with Holland in it. Unless of course you're going to say it was a weak group...in which case, you'd be calling scotland ****e.

As for the european big boys having no problem qualifying - how does that work if 3 of them end up in the same group?
