    Eric Cantona

Talk to any Scum fan and they'll talk about him in glowing terms as if he was world-class, an all-time great and a legend.

Personally, I think he was the most over-rated primadonna of all.

I won't deny he was a good player, at one time the most influential player in England and arguably the best player in the Premiership. But he played in an era when the Premiership was still young and only the 5th strongest league in Europe at best, behind Italy, Spain, Germany and France.

So while Cantona was inspiring Manchester United to domestic glory and dominance, his team were being shown up by the likes of IFK Gothenburg and Galatasaray in the Champions League. It wasn't until the 96/97 season that the Scum carried any threat in Europe at all and even then then they defeated in the semi-final by Borussia Dortmund.

At the end of that season, Cantona retired and confirmed for me that his name is not worthy of being mentioned alongside the genuine heroes of his era such as Savicevic, Litmanen, Del Piero, Bergkamp and Moller.
It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

        AMEN.

This is my biggest bugbear in football - certainly as far as Mancs are concerned.

A very good player but wildly, wildly, WILDLY overrated.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I agree that he was over rated. Still a very good player but it was more his style and character that won him plaudits. I hate the cunt.

Without sounding like a Utd lover he was the spark in their team in the same way that Scholes has been since his departure. World Class not quite, but a very very good player non the less.
I make no apologies, this is me

                Correct.

But try telling that to a United fan.

Come on guys, if it weren't for him, no one in the 80's would have ever turned up their gay collar and then spat on anyone they didn't like.

Totally agree. Never would he make an all time prem XI for example. How could he ahead of RVN, Shearer, Henry? And as Alpha points out, English sides were shat on in Europe at the time as our league was pretty average

he was the man who changed the mancs imo,he made them a team capable of winning the league.

for that alone he deserves credit.

if we could get a player like that that would change us from also rans to champions hed be revered as the best player ever.
