He wont be shopping in the bargain basement as he did at City, i am sure Ashley will release funds to him.

So now that Fat sam has gone i doubt Crouch will be heading up North.

It's not exactly a long term, progressive, considered appointment, is it ?

It will all end in tears for Newcastle. Again.

Houllier would have been a much better option.

They haven't got big money and without it Keegan won't be able to do anything. Attacking football rhymes with great players and they haven't got much of them.

It is a very odd choice. There is some logic to it though - they need the crowd back on side and they need someone to motivate the players. Keegan should fulfil both of those criteria.

I think it is fair to say that Newcastle aren't a top level team and Keegan did reasonably at City (even if as you say he didn't bring free flowing football) so he isn't a terrible choice. I'm not sure how many better coaches/managers would have been interested in the job to be honest.

Bargain basement? He bought Anelka for £13m.

He'll get funds but he's not just good enough, as he admitted himself live on TV.

Newcastle have confirmed that Kevin Keegan will make a dramatic return to manage the club.
The 56-year-old former Manchester City boss managed the Magpies from 1992 to 1997 and will return to St James' Park as Sam Allardyce's successor.

Gerard Houllier and Didier Deschamps were strongly linked with the position in the last two days but the club unexpectedly turned to Keegan.

He was initially linked only with a partnership role with Alan Shearer.

The ex-England coach was running his "Soccer Circus" in Glasgow after qutting his job at City in March 2005.

He was also linked with a return to the club last summer as director of football following Mike Ashley's takeover.

                    Nothing will chage there then...........

you're joking right, Houllier the equivalent of Howard bloody Wilkinson.

Houllier is a great football administrator/organiser/thinker not that good a manager.

Master stroke of a PR stunt if you ask me. Will have the dillusional Geordie fans 100% behind him for the immediate future at least and Keegan & Shearer will be given more time than anyone to succeed

I actually think they'll do a reasonable job, playing better football, scoring more goals whilst conceding bucketloads - that should be enough to be considered a success by the Geordies ...... mid table mediocrity would be an achievement the way that club is run

Brilliant news, further proof of Newcastle's comedy status.

Keegan was one of the leagues biggest spenders when he was originally at the club, can they afford his rich tastes this time around?
