    Premier League ratifies more subs

Premier League clubs will be allowed to name seven substitutes in matches from the start of next season.
The change was suggested by leading clubs such as Manchester United last year and replicates the regulations in European and international games.

The Premier League agreed to discuss the issue, amid concerns that it would favour clubs with big squads.

Premier League voting rules require 14 out of the 20 member clubs to back any suggested rule changes.

Coaches are currently restricted to naming five substitutes, and are able to use a maximum of three of them

It will give Rafa more possibilities, if he is still with us next season.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

If this goes through without any age restrictions on the extra substitutes then I think it is a very poor decision. The only teams it benefits are the top ones with the biggest squads. At least an age restriction would give more young players a chance of PL experience.

Premier League gives green light to seven subs

The Premier League has given the go-ahead for teams to name seven substitutes from the beginning of the 2008-09 season.

The current rule allows for five nominated substitutes and has remained unchanged for 12 years. But the increase will bring the Premier League into line with other major European leagues, Uefa and international tournaments.

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the Premier League clubs in agreement with the idea. Chairman Daniel Levy welcomed the move, as well as claiming some of the credit for the change: "We at Tottenham Hotspur have promoted and lobbied for this rule change for some time and we are absolutely delighted our proposal was supported by member clubs."

Levy outlined why he thought the change was important. "In order to both maintain that label and improve our competitive edge, it is important to give our managers and coaches greater choice on the substitutes bench, enabling them to be more creative tactically. That was the objective behind us bringing this proposal to the table. Additionally, it should also mean that younger players from the academy can be given an opportunity to break into the first team."

Will mean that we will hopefully see more of our youngsters getting a go.
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.

I think this is great news for the kids. You can never predict how a game will pan out, but with seven subs you can have the usual 5 proper subs and then 2 extra kids as well, so if we are coasting in a game we can give them a run out.

              I`m all for it.

great news, at last we catch up with the rest of the world, 5 subs never made any sense.

Almost as good as the news we're playing Sunderland in Sydney in 2010

Great we can have more 'possibilities' on the bench.

This 'might' suit Rafa a lot more as he will have more tactical possibilities.

How much more loan we have to get and how this affects transfer budget as we may have to purchase more seats to dugout?
