    Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli:

    Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli:
"I am worried. This is a real team who will make us suffer a lot. We will be against one of the best teams in Europe.

"I am very curious to see how we fare. This game is going to be very difficult and we are going to have to keep our concentration.

"They are a team who play good football but are also physical. They play the ball well both on the floor and in the air and are very well organised. But if you go out with the thought of defending, then you lose."

I think he's getting confused as to which Merseyside club he's facing.
"My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.

He's probably thinking about the team they'll meet after Everton.

Everton are a good side. You lot are so bitter it's untrue. Wake up, have a look at the league table. Maybe not as good as he seems to think but far better than the majority on here do. It's cringeworthy the stuff about Everton on here and we call THEM bitter (I'm not referring to this thread but to the forum in general)

Credit where it's due. David Moyes (or should I say "Gollum") is a good manager and has assembled a competent squad of players and they will push us close for 4th spot (how sad does that sound - "for fourth spot", my god we are sinking)

I don't understand. The Fiorentina players didn't look too excited nor did they do a lap of honour, after all they had just convincingly beat "one of the best teams in europe".

                  Don't be such a gimp.

The above comments were part tongue in cheek and it seems that you really don't understand the rivalry and banter if you think that on a reds forum we're going to sit here and type "aren't Everton doing really well, good on them, great manager that Gollum is."

They're average and punching hugely above their weight.

                      You're rubbish.

                      Hope this helps.

There is to be honest a lot of unreasonable dismissal of Everton on here. They are a good but not great side with a limited set of options in the squad which they exploit well. They are in th eposition they are in the league on merit - they have had a good season. It is not the first time in recent years they have been in the top 6 or even contention for the top 4 so the idea that it is somehow a fluke is wearing a bit thin.

That said, with reference to the original statement I suspect that like Arsene Wengers implication that 0-0 was a better result than a 1-0 win in the CL first legs the point of the statement was more a part of a motivational/psychological drive to affect his own players. Everton are a very good side and in a way the top 6 in the PL is probably quite high up in the ranking of European teams overall so in that way he is in a limited way quite right any way.

In fairness, it seems reasonable to assume you don't have to drink/work/live with many, or any, bluenoses, and I can assure you that some of the tripe that a lot of people have to put up with this season makes enjoying a result like last night's quite acceptable.

I can't say I dislike the team, nor can I say that I think they are a bad team. They have great organisation, very good mentality and have finally begun to install some creativity in the midfield. But ****ed if I'm going to want them to succeed when all I hear about is how "Moyes is the best manager in the country", or "Tim Howard is 10x better than Reina", and a plethora of other idiotic statements which are often a lot worse and far more vitriolic than the examples I have just given.

I'm personally pleased that they have been put in their place in Europe and hopefully I won't have to endure any more comments about Everton having the best record on the continent. That, in my opinion, doesn't make me "bitter".
