New bid?
Pennant to join boyhood heroes?
Rafael Benitez is believed to have made an improved bid for right winger Jermaine Pennant last night, with early newspaper reports suggesting that Blues boss Steve Bruce has reluctantly accepted the offer.
Should such reports turn out to be true, Pennant is likely to be unveiled at Anfield later this week. Benitez appears to have turned his attention to Pennant having missed out on his first target Daniel Alves. However, Benitez has been tracking Pennant for some time, even bidding twice last January so it's wrong to call him 'second best'.
The Reds are hoping the money saved from the Alves deal will free up funds for a renewed bid for Feynoord's Dirk Kuyt, who will cost in the region ofLast edited by Sprouty; 25-07-06, 08:17 AM.Switch off when not in use.

Anyone who thinks pennant is an average player really needs to follow another sport.
the lad is proven quality in the premiership and is a great signing. the reason hes not at arsenal is becaue of his personal problems in the past. is is a true out and out right winger which is what we are crying out for.
hes young and hes english which is better.
we can now afford a top quality striker and thats got to be good.
if this is all true i'll be very happy.

He is a good player, but not worth 6mill. There is no way on earth his performances last year warrented a doubling of his value. If they did then he would have been in contention for the WC.

"You can say the price is the price, but you also have to consider the market, and we cannot pay a fee over the market price," said Benitez.
"Some clubs may pay more than the player is worth, but we can't do that at Liverpool. We can't pay over the market price.

Brums still owe us a couple of millions from the heskey sale, or so i heard"In fact I’m going to make a promise which will be welcomed by many. If there’s no finance secured by the opening day of the season, I’m going to hang up my keyboard and close KOPTALK down." - Duncan Oldham, Expert Conman. March 29th 2006

I think Pennant gets a raw deal because of his offfield antics clouding peoples opinions of him.
Put simply, if Pennant was Spanish and played for Betis and we knew nothing of his private life, we would be excited about signing a young excellent player and patting Rafa on the back for getting him for a great price.
Pennant is a great prospect under the right manager.....and we have the right manager.
I hope he signs.
I think he will prove a lot of people wrong.CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP CLAPCLAPCLAPCLAP DALGLISH!

Whilst I agree 6m isnt over the top for JP, I'd say Lennon is a better "English Right Mid".Originally posted by Faganwhy is 6M double his value?
surely the best english right midfielder is worth more than 3M?! id actually say 5/6M is a fair price for such a promising youngster who has had 2 superb seasons in a row in the premiership

yeah thats a fair point. from what ive seen of lennon, he looks awesome. but we've only seen a little of his so far.
I think under Benitez pennant will prove his worth. benitez can get the best out of any player

Under Rafa I am sure he will come good. Lets give him a chance as I am sure we all will. Ive got a good feeling about this lad with right guidance and team support he can be really special.
