    Technical fouls

I was watching the United game today and not for the first time I got annoyed with players doing really small things like standing in front of freekicks to prevent them being taken early and little tugs to stop counter attacks being started. I rarely think they are worth a yellow card of themselves but as it is teams can use it as a tactic and along with kicking players out of games it just ruins the flow of a match.

I would like to propose the idea of ether individual or team technical foul counts. So if it was for a player say three technical fouls equals a yellow (I would make 5 a red but that is not the key point). Alternatively a maximum of say 15 for a team before a player chosen by their manager is dismissed.

Anyone think there is any merit in this idea?

To be honest if anyone wants to talk about the possibility of applying Bayesian statistics/information theory to determine whether the sampling of a molecular dynamics simulation is in fact in anyway representative of an equilibrium thermodynamic process I'm all ears (eyes I suppose as it is the internet). Otherwise I demand something trivial to fill my mind for a while.

Really though these sort of things (along with being allowed to obstruct players on the goal line to enforce a corner) really piss me off and when watching matches as a neutral or at least non supporter of either team I get somewhere between mildly miffed and somewhat put out.

Well I share your frustration. I always viewed the Italians as the masters of the technical foul - the ****ing annoying, sly pieces of foul play be it physical or interrupting the flow of the game.

But I can't see a solution and wouldn't envisage your proposal having any legs.

You should email Platini, I wouldn't be at all suprised if he'd like that one

Problem I could envisage would be the potential for even more loony refereeing decisions than we get now at times. Technical fouls can be even more subjective, one ref's determination of taking too long to allow a free-kick or whatever might not be another's. It would also make it extremely hard for fans, especially in the stadiums, to track what was going on with the counts, let alone the players and managers.

I can also see something like that being abused by teams themselves in a different, but equally frustrating type of gamesmanship. Imagine how people would play for freekicks knowing the opposition was one foul away from having to remove a player from the pitch....

Interesting, but that specific solution would prove unworkable imo.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.

          Mine angry and defrauded young?

I can see that I was really only coming up with a cheap analogy to Basketball as I couldn't thin of anything better.

I worry Platini might implement it and then I get lynched by an angry mob of fans for suggesting it.

I didn't mind the old idea of moving a free kick forward 10 yards if there was dissent or whatnot. It could easily be applied in situations you mentioned.

Another rule that lasted five minutes.

Remember the 'six second rule' for the keepers?

The thing that annoys me the most is when a player without having touched the ball covers it out over line.

That should be a freekick to the other team 100% of the time but instead even if it's totally against the rules nothing is done about it. It's called good defending
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I would like a referee to watch a wall which is constructed when a free kick is about to commence. I am sure that the wall moves at least a yard or two and I believe this should result in bookings to the offending parties and a warning of moving the ball 10 yards. That should stop it.

Also, if a player was to fall a bit easy or what is deemed as 'good forward play' the player should be booked right on the spot.

In that case I stand by what I said.

You mean those stupid little steps that players do loads of quickly, bitters pissed me off with that at the weekend as they were moving a couple of yards.
