Flamini on a free transfer gotta hurt Arsenal big time.

Some of the comments on barry are unbelievable. He is a consummate penalty taker, takes excellent corners and is excellent at set pieces-we've been moaning about corners and set pieces for ages and one of the best in the league maybe coming to LFC and all some people can see are the negatives

Arsenal got well and truly bummed on this deal. When did they begin to negotiate a new contract? Isn't our policy one of not letting a player enter into his penultimate year w/o signing a new deal?

I think it's more to do with Flamini than Arsenal

I'm sure i read somwhere in the last two days his former coach at Marseille was slaggin him off calling him a back stabbing judas cunt or something cause he basically did the same to them - signed a two year deal, worked it down and left on a free to arsenal

On July 23, 2004, Flamini signed a professional contract for Arsenal, rejecting Marseille's long-term senior contract offer to which he had already verbally agreed to. Soon after the incident, Marseille manager José Anigo stated, "This is a beautiful treason. He used me. the back stabbing judas cunt"

Flamini- 4 Million Pound signing on fee plus around 70k per week. Can't really blame him and Wenger should have seen it coming along time ago. I dont know many people who would not walk out for that. He is immediately 4m quid richer than he would have been if he renewed his contract now

IF Hleb leaves and they replace him with Nico Kranjar i will laugh my ass off. He's rubbish

i agree - the only way you wouldn't take it is if you were already a multi millionaire and had a real close association to the club - ie if i was playing for liverpool and a millionaire i wouldn't leave for any money - but say if i was at Valencia and Milan offered you that ****ing right you would take it.

Damn right there, fella. Flamini is a big loss for Arsenal though.

No one can compete for Mashers place. I fear for those that do

Just thought I would point out that on the Guardian podcast it was claimed that the wages of Flamini were £20k per month which is shockingly low for a PL player.

Yes, I think we can see how Arsenal can afford big fees for young players - they pay (relatively) low wages (like Tottenham do or at least did).

Wages are always something everyone forgets when talking about the players we can afford. It tends to make the nett transfer fees comparisons seem a bit flimsy to me.

It does however go to show how well run in a financial sense Arsenal have been - even if we are now seeing some of the risks of their model of team building.

If it is indeed correct that they were paying an established first teamer (only) £5k a week then they are fools to expect him to stick around. That doesn't make financial sense to me, just adds to Wenger's idiosyncracies.

Will Wenger spend big this summer? he has to, even if Hleb stays, they do need a lot of reniforcements right through the squad. This was the reason they have fizzled out this season and even when they had a chance to stregthne in Jan they didnt. Sometime Wenger is just to stubborn for his own good.

Wengers problem will always be his wage cap, young players will sign for 40 grand but 4 yrs later will move for more money.
