Nobody (unless i say it) would argue with the notion that, generally speaking, the best players are the most expensive. As with every 'rule', there will be exceptions, but they're in the minority because, as with most things in life, you generally get what you pay for.

You are correct to say the best players cost the most, obviously And you are also correct to say nobody would argue if it wasn't you saying it.

Chelsea needed a RB, and they're buying a class one that will improve their 1st XI and let Essien play CM full time. They almost won it this year and are pushing on for next. If they have to spend 15 million on a player to do it, they will, repeatedly. Fact us, unless we do the same, we won't push on in relative terms. Whether it's sensible to do so at the moment is another issue.

I get your point djs, and whilst "generally" gives you free reign I have to say that what Chelsea pay for people is not necessarily what they are worth. I would be happy for the chavs to spend 100 mill this summer and for us to spend 30 mill as long as Rafa strengthens the positions that need strengthening and on good players.
That said of course id love for us to have 100mil to spend but my point is that we can still be a league winning side without that much money.
