    GOMIS PREFERRED TO CISSE

Djibril Cisse will have more time to play with his hair this summer after again missing out on a major tournament for France. He's been left out of Raymond Domenech's 23-man squad for Euro 2008 in favour of St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

Marseille forward Cisse, who missed the 2006 World Cup after breaking his leg in a warm-up game, has been omitted despite the fact 22-year-old Gomis has only one previous cap for Les Bleus and has less stylish hair.

OM youngster Samir Nasri has been preferred to Lyon protege Hatem Ben Arfa, while uncapped goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, Nasri's club team-mate, is picked ahead of Paris St Germain's Mickael Landreau.

In defence, comedy duo Jean-Alain Boumsong and Sebastien Squillaci have been included ahead of Julien Escude and the injured Philippe Mexes.

The man who's had more loans than Natwest, Alou Diarra, and the UEFA Cup's new midfielder Mathieu Flamini were also cut from Domenech's preliminary squad on Wednesday.

Apart from the high number of inexperienced players in the squad, the big surprise is Domenech's decision to name Chelsea's Florent Malouda, who's utterly useless.

France kick off their campaign against Romania on June 9 before facing Holland and Italy in their remaining Group C fixtures.
If only more press articles were written that well....

Gomis scored twice last night...goals that obviously clinched his place.

Cisse started and was taken off at half time.

this boy will be special though, Low said the only reason he's been left out is because they wanted experience

Do you know if any games are being televised on free to air in OZ? Foxtel dont have the pay tv rights, Setanta do.

Just seen those goals, two brilliant strikes. Looks a decent player.

I'll go for Michael Ballack (he'll score the goals that will take Germany to at least the semis).
Not if he plays as **** as he did in the last world cup (Germany looked far better with Borowski instead).

Thought Ballack had a good World Cup myself.

Kat says he plays like he did in WC she will get on the first train to London and strangle him.

I personally though he was ****, he did nothing, he passing was poor, he lacked movement and didn't involve himself at all.

She thinks he is the most overrated German player ever

He's in good form at the moment though. Just got a feeling he'll rise to the occasion.
