Wenger wants the rules changed...

I can see his point, and the controlling bodies are always looking for ways to make the game more attractive. But it would never happen, most teams play negative football away from home against someone higher in the league than them, so too many teams would oppose itThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I agree that the model proposed by Wenger is flawed but I think the slating he got for proposing it was unfair. I agree with you about defending but I think that increased athleticism and size of players (keepers in particular) has made defending easier. For me top quality defending is a joy to watch but what has been allowed to happen is that a combination of the always existent tugging of shirts etc and physicality of players has reduced the number of what I would call artful defenders.Originally posted by BFG View PostIt depends whether you see football as a game that is all about attacking. IMO defending takes just as much skill as attacking so you're basically punishing a team that plays to their strenghts. It may not be as pleasing on the eye but great defending is an aspect of the game that shouldn't be overlooked.
We'd also see the top 4 getting bonus points regularly against the lower placed sides making the gap between 4th and the rest even bigger. When you look at the success of the Premier League and the success of the game in general in recent times I don't think any such system is needed and it's clear that Wenger only thinks that way because he believes it would benefit his team.
I know this will be controversial but I'm actually in favour of slightly enlarging the goals. There was a study that showed that since 1980 (I think it was) keepers had become on average 2-3 inches taller. A commensurate increase in the size of goals for me would be an interesting thing to try out.
The rules of football in match are constantly tweaked (usually the offside rule admittedly) to try and subtly alter the balance between attack and defense when the game appears for what ever reason to be heading in an undesirable direction. I don't think football is all that bad yet but I don't see that some minor tweaks in favour of attacking would be that out of line with president (although for me Wenger's changes do go to far)."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I agree with you mate. I'm not against progression as long as the aims are for the benefit of the game rather than certain teams which I think is what Wenger really wants.Originally posted by dww View PostI agree that the model proposed by Wenger is flawed but I think the slating he got for proposing it was unfair. The model he suggest def. favours the rich in the championship race and not the game as such.Originally posted by BFG View PostI agree with you mate. I'm not against progression as long as the aims are for the benefit of the game rather than certain teams which I think is what Wenger really wants.
I would rather see a uefa cup place being given to the most attractive playing team (perhaps meassured by more than goals scored). Take away the league cup, which is useless anyway IMHO, and use that spot for this instead.
