Spurs set to sign Dos Santosfor £6.2million

Giovani Dos Santos is on the verge of completing a move from Barcelona to Tottenham Hotspur after a basic agreement was reached between all three parties.

The 19-year-old Mexico international could join the Premier League side as early as Monday according to Sport after Barca accepted an 8million euros (£6.2million) bid.

That fee may rise to 11million euros (£8.6million)
depending on both Dos Santos and Tottenham meeting specified targets during his four-year stay at White Hart Lane.

    Deal close

Dos Santos's father, Zizinho, admitted that his son is proud and excited by the thought of moving to such a prestigious club as he told Mexican daily paper, Record, that a deal was in the offing.

"Nothing has been finalised," he said. "But it is an honour that a club as important as Tottenham want to sign Giovani, but nothing can be said officially yet.

"The ambitious project that Tottenham have has excited Giovani and he just wants to go there and help the team in any way he can.

"It is obvious that leaving Barcelona is a risky decision, but with his qualities it appears that it could be the best option for him."

Spurs boss Juande Ramos was keen to land the starlet because he strongly believes that his pace, ability to break into the area and shooting ability make him perfect for the English game.

Although a deal has not been finalised, Dos Santos' agent, Pini Zahavi, and Barca's sporting vice-president, Marc Ingla, believe that there will be few problems in reaching an agreement.

Throughout the negotiations, Dos Santos - who is also wanted by Manchester City - has been undergoing treatment to recover from a an operation that he had on his ankle in the middle of May and is set to keep him out of action for another four weeks.

It's amazing how many people are saying he's ****e. I can remember when we were linked with him last year and quite a few people were creaming themselvess. A similar siutation occurred with Robinho. I seem to remember him being linked last summer, but quite a few people were saying how ****e he is. 12 months on and people would love for us to sign him if he were to become available.

I agree but until he (Krikic) plays the role he did for the youths, I can't see him being that prolific. At the moment he's being played out of position.

How come he's being sold so cheaply given he's so good then?

They wouldnt of sold Messi at that age or Bojan now for £6m odd and theres a reason for that!

Mate, I think you and I both know of players who have been sold for a cheap price and gone on to become a great success.

That doesnt mean everyone in the future will though.

If this kid is so great why is he only going for £6m + and why are the biggest clubs in for him Tottenham and Man City? There has to be a reason.

I think we need to stop paying too much attention as to what teams are in for particular players. That doesn't mean anything in my book. How many top teams were in for Aguero before he left independiente?

No idea, I dont really remember articles on Aguero from two years ago + theres a slight difference between £6m and £16m

Plus Aguero was making a step up to a bigger club.

Dos Santos is being shipped out by a big club to a small one.

I see your point mate, but my point is that non of the european elite were in for him, however he's proved to be a top player.

Maybe it's Santos who wants to leave

Santos does not want to leave but Barca want rid. I find that strange. I think he clearly has ability and if developed correctly over the next 3 years he could be a star. Spurs are getting a very good deal here, 5 years from now he could be a star worth £25m
