    Nasri joins Arsenal

I knew it was coming but i was hoping the deal would fall through or something

    ---------------------------------
Arsenal have won the race to sign France midfielder Samir Nasri from Marseille, BBC Sport understands.

The 20-year-old, who has been dubbed the new Zinedine Zidane, has reportedly agreed a four-year contract and will join after Euro 2008.

Nasri, who has made two appearances at this summer's European Championship, has spent the last four seasons with the French side.

He came to prominence in France's U-17 European Championship side in 2004.

The 20-year-old is believed to have a £13.5m buy-out clause in his contract.

Nasri joined Marseille as a nine-year-old and made his league debut during the 2004-2005 season.

Last season, Nasri, who can play on either wing, won the French first division's young player of the year crown and was voted Marseille's player of the year by fans.

This campaign he scored six goals in 30 games for the French outfit with the final strike in his tally coming in the 4-3 win over Strasbourg last weekend that helped secure Marseille's berth in next season's Champions League.

Nasri had appeared at various youth international levels for France before winning the first of seven senior caps in 2007, though he only came on as a substitute as Les Bleus exited Euro 2008.

The BBC's Football Correspondent Jonathan Legard said: "Arsene Wenger had hoped to complete the deal before Euro 2008 but now the official announcement will come after the tournament.

"He could be a replacement for Alexander Hleb whose future remains the subject of speculation."

What a stupid and ignorant post.

Nasri is pure class and will be one of the best players in the premier league. To make a statement like that just tells me that you have never watched the French league or seen him play.

He's barely played. Domenech the mad clown should have started him atleast once. He got brought on yesterday and subbed 10 minutes later when Abidal was sent off.

Ribery didn't get to light up the Euro's but he is still quality. Nasri is a special player

Apparantly Arsenal have won the race...against who exactly? This is supposed to be one of the hottest properties in football, and not one big club was after him. That in itself says everything.

How do we know there weren't other interested parties? We have certainly been linked in the past. I would suspect that there is every chance that he would have said he wanted to go to Arsenal because of Wenger's exceptional record for giving young French (and French league players) a chance and developing them. When we bought Torres there appeared to be no obvious competition but that was not a case where there was no interest.

I would say that if not necessarily this coming season but in the future the odds are he will be a very good player. Wenger has an exceptional eye for young players with potential.

Atletico Madrid were also linked to him

For a player as allegedly high profile as Nasri, who is being chased by an English club, you would expect any other interested parties to be reported in the London press...yet there was next to nothing...if not less.

Torres had a lot of suitors if i remember correctly, every close season big clubs were linked with him, from about the age of 19 on, but he stayed loyal to AM (either that or he was holding out for his dream move) so that comparison really doesn't stand up.

Arsenal remind me a lot of spurs in that they have an awesome midfield and attack but they can be weak at the back. I know sagna and clichy are quality full backs and toure and gallas are good CBs but all 4 are prone to making some shocking howlers and, unlike united, chelsea or liverpool, you always feel that any team could score against them. Add into that the fact that they dont have a keeper for the outgoing lehmann (unless almunia is staying as number 1?) then arsenal wont get further then 3rd or 4th again IMO
