Athletico Madrid have signed Florent Sinama-Pongolle on a four year contract from Recreativo Huelva. They have agreed a fee of €8million for the striker, who scored 22 goals in his two seasons in Huelva after failing to gain a regular place with Rafael Benitez at Liverpool.

He will now have a chance to prove himself on the highest stage again as Atletico have qualified for the Champions League after fourteen years in the wilderness.

Always liked Pongolle - he was a handy player to have on the bench. I wish we'd kept him instead of getting in Voronin. Made a big contribution to us winning the FA Cup with his performance v Luton in the 3rd Round and of course the Olympiakos CL match.

Actually thinking again and you've reminded me that we're talking Euros, maybe it's not abad price. He was great in Spain last year although in vain as Recreativo were relegated (or were they, getting confuzzled) despite his goals.

He reminds me of Ronaldo the wayn that he bulked up. He was a lightweight litte girl for us and that was his downfall. He must be 3 stone heavier now and looks like an athlete. Far better option than Voronin and Dirk for a back up striker IMO.
