I think like Rodgers he will need time to change the way they play. Not easy to judge. Been listening to 5Live and I think people are reading too much into early results in general at the minute.

Another similarity between Rodgers and AVB is that they seem quite fundamentalist in their commitment to playing in a particular style. So far neither of them have shown that their way of playing can be a real success in the PL IMO.

I think the fundamental difference between Brendan and AVB is their man management skills. Brendan seems very good at motivating players to play for him, as can be seen by Borrini and Allen following him here. AVB is perhaps a little less gifted in this area, at least judging by his time at Chelsea... Mind you, not the easiest group of players to work with there.

To be fair to AVB, Moutinho and other Porto players have wanted to follow him around. It all boils down to success really doesn't it.

I agree with you on the whole though - Rodgers does seem warmer. AVB seems an annoying, charmless cunt, and that frog in his throat drives me mad. What I will say in his defence is the press have it in for him real bad and it reminds me a lot of Rafa. If the press don't understand someone or their methods, they just attack them. You can hear the knives being sharpened already.

Having said all that, I hope he does a dismal job

A bit bizarre that Friedel has been assured he is still the no.1 keeper - Lloris is an expensive no.2 keeper in that case!

bit like avb telling dawson he would be captain then selling him or at least trying to

                LOL

My Spurs mate is remaining patient but he wanted Moyes and was very disappointed with AVB, who he perceived to be a chancer. So I don't think the patience will stretch far - I reckon most Spurs fans wanted Moyes.

He also said he has accepted that they need to lower expectation this season and hope for a Cup win. Top 4 no chance, he reckons.

AVB- Never knows what his best 11 is and has no clue how to set up a defence. He was fine at Porto because they had only one team capable to of challenging them. So glad he's at spurs

Andre Villas Boas has an excellent eye for players, quick and technical. His tactical knowledge and scouting cannot be questioned. His man management could, and this is where he differs to Rodgers. The latter has spent years on the coaching field, working with different coaches and absorbing different ideas. Villas Boas has studied the elite coaches, but has not spent the time at 'grassroots' level, learning the variety of player personality and scenarios.

He needs to learn that, but I really rate him and wanted him badly at Liverpool when Hodgson was sacked and when Dalglish was sacked in the summer.

Perhaps he needs to find his ideal assistant (particularly for England), his Pat Rice if you will. I think one of the defining characteristics of Mourinho and Fergusson (Rafa was similar too) has been their consistent ability to spot people they need to have working with them.
