Sure, he's riding on the back of a good crop of youngsters, and he's done very well with them. But unless they have another load 'knocking on the door' then is it sustainable?

In fairness they have generally bought well, but are obviously helped massively by their two best players coming from the youth setup. If they had had to buy those players either that nethe spend figure would be much higher, they wouldn't have players of that quality or they would have to compromise on players that they signed elsewhere.

As good as you youth system might be IMO a large part of it is down to luck. You can probably rely on the odd one or two squad players coming through every few years but you can't rely on producing top quality players regularly.

Around that time and loaned back for a year IIRC. I'm still annoyed we got so close to signing him and missed out. I know many on here hate him but his numbers are great and he's a real talent, albeit a snidey cunt as a player.

I guess saying 'youth setup' may be technically wrong but purchasing and developing young players is really the key/point. They bought Walker and Rose when young and helped them kick on to be really good players. Dier was about 20 and became a starter after a cheap transfer from Sporting.

Add to that the likes of Winks and Walker-Peters who have been useful for them in the last couple of seasons and their development work is pretty strong looking.
