Come on lads. You gotta love Sir Alex

The United boss, asked about Vidic's dismissal, retorted: "Carragher was making those challenges all day long, and no fouls were given.

"We had several bookings and a red card. Is that a reflection of Man United being a dirty team? I don't think so. I think the crowd plays a part."
"Sir, it's me sir. Jennings sir."

I thought he was fine yesterday, very honest in fact. As a matter of fact im positive that before he retires/dies he wants us to win the league again. Hes said before that of all teams he respects us the most and i bet the chavs and the way they are really pisses him off.

        I dont really care though.

Towards the end of the game the level of dirty cynical fouls from them was shocking. Because they are a successful team they usually get away with it but the fact we completely dominated them exposed them in a way that meant the referee had no choice (I actually thought he was fairly lenient).

All managers defend their players actions on those sort of yellow card offenses though. Sadly in general he has made this comments for a long time and in a lot of instances it has affected the way United's games are refereed.

Vidic should have walked for the foul on Keane anyway

having watched the game several times now
I don't think the challenge on Alonso was that bad, it looked worse because he came charging into a standing Xabi

Vidic did lead with his arm though, so it warranted a yellow; I thought the challenge on Keane was a borderline red, at the time I was convinced he should have walked but having seen the replays I think there is a decent argument that Ferdinand would have got back in some shape or form.....

I never really understand that argument in situations like that - there was a clear goal scoring opportunity in that he would for the second before he was fouled have had a clear sight at the goal with only the keeper in front of him. The fact he was most likely to take a touch and give Ferdinand a chance shouldn't really come into it. There was a goal scoring opportunity and it was denied - should have been a straight red (just as Terry's ludicrous rugby tackle was in the Chelsea game).

Interesting view, I guess how do you define a goal scoring opportunity, Keane would have been 25 yards out with VDS in goals; I wouldn't class 25 yards out as a goal scoring opportunity unless it was an empty net. IF Keane had been on the edge of the area then perhaps it would have been a goal scoring situation.

For the record, I didn't think Terry's was a red card. AND it will be successfully appealed in my opinion.

He's right, it's not just a few yellows and a red that makes them a dirty team....their fans in the crowd are cunts too

I really hate these cynical fouls and I would be tempted to red card them all. If the defender didn't think it was a goal scoring opportunity what the **** are they making the ludicrous foul for (in particular Terry's which was a ****ing joke IMO). To my mind the point of the rules is to penalise defenders for preventing good attacking play without making any attempt to regain possession legally.

We all prefer to see good attacking play and I think that is encouraged by a strict enforcement of these laws.

I had the same argument after the Arsenal CL game where people were baying for one of our players to take out Walcott (which I argued should have been a sending off for anyone who had done it).

I thought Vidic's forearm smash should have been a straight red. He didn't get anywhere near the ball and his arm was up.

imo if the last defender brings down the attacker in a cynical way when he has been beaten, it should be a penalty regardless of where the 'challenge' was made

                          I personally prefer to watch 11 v 11

And imo he knew very well what he was doing, he went up with his arm to hit Xabi in the face.
