    Chelsea move to scarves.

Stamford Bridge will be fronting a new look tomorrow night (Tuesday) as Chelsea begin our Champions League campaign against Bordeaux.

Last season's flags at each seat for European fixtures have given way to scarves, as one of the popular neck garments will be hung on every Chelsea seat before the game.

'The flags were successful last year, we got to the Champions League Final and they looked fantastic, but this year we thought we would try something a little bit different and have a bit of a different look,' said Wesley Barton, stadium tours supervisor, who is coordinating the scarf hand-out.

'We have seen some teams on the continent who have tried it and it looks fantastic when the fans wave them.'

And with the arrival of a Brazilian manager, Chelsea are hoping fans will employ the Latin-style twirling motion when they swing the scarves above their heads during the game, unlike the stretch-above-your-head effect some other teams use.

'We are trying to create our own effect, this is Chelsea Football Club, not Liverpool, and I think it is good to be different,' explained Barton.

'We're trying to bring a South American feel to it with the new manager and some of the players coming from there.'

There will be over 30,000 scarves placed around the stadium, but Barton is hoping fans will bring last season's flags back as well.

'Everyone will get their own scarf, but we still want people to bring their flags from last season.

'We want to create as much of an atmosphere as possible.

'So, a flag in one hand, a scarf in the other!

'We'll see what the fans make of it, but it should be really good.'

There are still a few tickets remaining for the first Champions League clash of the season, available from the box office only, they will go off sale on Tuesday at 5.30pm.

worthless classless clueless fans... they will never ever recreate an anfield atmosphere
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

haha - i love they way he had to mention liverpool! - by mentioning us it's almost admitting that they are copying us despite his poor attempt at dismissing it.

love they way they are saying they have seen some teams on the continent do this, - !!!!!???? what.... who....which teams......??? - Liverpool!!!!!! but they aren't trying to be like us apparently

They are hoping for the scarves to get fans to employ the Latin-style twirling motion when they swing the scarves above their heads during the game, unlike the stretch-above-your-head effect some other teams use.

hahahahahaha - so what they are trying to achieve is this

but they are not copying liverpool!!!! ****ing hell!!

TBH Fiorentina used violet plastic flags many times (I remember last year Uefa Cup semi final). Anyway why would you care about Chavs and their athmosphere?

It's so ****in shallow, "different" twirling not waving.... my arse. He may as well have come out and said...."**** me, Anfield is brilliant, the fans, if only we could re-create the Anfield Atmosphere that would be great, so we are giving our fans scarves to try and replicate this, but remember, You aint seen me right".

                  Because it's FUNNY.
Most clubs sell merchandise, they have to give it away to try and create a little atmosphere.
                  Sums 'em up nicely.

It's embarrassing. Roman is obviously jealous of our crowd, so he's asked some corporate bellend to come up with an idea for fixing it. ****ing laughable

haha - i don't care about their lack of atmosphere, i just find it funny that thanks to romans cash they find themselves as a big club but don't know how to act. PArt of me thinks it's a greta gesture by the club to 'give' something back, and with the money in football nowadays i think clubs and players a like should do more for the paying fans - cause without the fans, people like gerrard, lampard, ronaldo etc etc wouldn't be multi millionaires -

but on the other hand - to release a statement thats basically saying we are giving u free scarfs cause we want u to twirl them round ur cause liverpool do it and it looks good and they have the best atmosphere.......but we're not copying them - just makes me laugh and smacks of desperation to be a well supported club

now if they did the gesture and released a statement saying - we want to thank our supporters for their terrifc support and to do this we are giving the fans who attend such and such a game a free scarf as gesture of thankyou - i think we would all sit up, take note, say fair play, and demand a similiar gesture etc.

it's the way they are blantatly trying to be like us but in the next sentance they say - but we are not copying liverpooL!! haha - i'd have more time for them if they said - we witnessed the Kop at Anfield swinging their scarfs and singing and thought it was great atmosphere and would love to get something similar going here.

For what it's worth on cfc-net most of them seemed embarresed by it

At this point i would like to mention gestures of thankyou's to the fans. The money in football is ****ing obscene and I don't think players and clubs alike, realise how much their fans worship and follow them.

Small gestures such as Mellberg buying all the villa away fans who went to his last game a villa shirt, or all the way back a few years ago when tranmere released a shirt with all the season ticket holders names in the shirt (similair to Alves did in uefa cup final against us)

there is not enough of these gestures today - me and my old man were discussing it recently - we were saying -esp with someone like my dad, season ticket holder for 30 years plus pays for my mum's season ticket that she has had for 20+ years, been to EVERY major final including rome, wembley, dortmund, heysel, cardiff etc etc etc, over the years has spent ****ing thousands and thousands of pounds on merchandise etc etc etc etc - ****ing loves the club - and how many gestures of thanks have the club offered the thousands of fans like my dad! - none! - in fact, do season ticket holders even get discount in the club shop anymore, i'm sure i remember him having a rant they didn't

it doesn't take much - just a small jesture once every now and then - if the club can't afford it then the ****ing players can! - even if it was something small, like getting all the millionaire players to chip in once a season and the last home game of each season they arranged for a special edition programme to be given out to each season ticket holder or whatever.......

I think it's funny that some fans need to be "taught" on how to be "proper" fans.

Once a chav, always a chav.
