    The Rooney wankathon

So he's scored, what, about 5 in 5 or something. Wow. I'm watching the United game now and his every touch is being met by that pair of pricks Tyldesley and Beglin (sorry) with the most cringe-inducing creaming of themselves. It's ever so embarrassing.

What is it about this lad? We all know he's a good player, a very good player in fact, but to listen to the English media you'd think he was Diego Maradona ("the new Pele" ). It's appalling. Can you imagine if he lived up to Torres' standards and scored 33 goals in a season? Christ Almighty. The football world would go into meltdown amid scenes of pundits openly masturbating on TV.

Thankfully Rooney will never reach those goal-scoring standards.

It's just the same here in Norway, laughable

To be fair Shaggy, watching one of the England games last week - I can't remember which commentator it was - but they were saying how he hasn't yet reached the heights that was expected of him. So it's not every pundit

Waldorf and Statler are mutually masturbating over "8 goals in 6 games for club and country" as if this kind of stat is unique in modern football

He is the English 'hope'. If its not Walcott, its Rooney. He plays for the darling club after all.

I'm amazed. Seriously? I thought it was an English bias...a desperate clinging to a delusion that English football has the new Pele on its hands.

            Maybe not then.

And before someone starts, I know he's very good but, listening to the media, someone who didn't know any better would think they were watching the best player on the planet.

I honestly believe that if Torres were English, they would be spunking themselves silly. As it is, he usually gets a cursory "yeah, great player" remark and we move on!

Rooney is a good player has never really improved since he burst on the scene at Everton excluding the last 2-3 weeks.

Everything about Wayne that was truly exciting, the stunning volleys and amazing turns etc has slowly disappeared from his game. He's still a very good player but, as has been suggested here already, he is absolutely nowhere near to the top level of players. Messi, Villa, Ronaldo, FT et al.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

Clive Tyldesley gets right on my tits. Inane observation upon inane observation. How did he ever get to his position (OK the competition isn't great). Brian Moore must be turning in his grave.
                    Oh I don't know.

                        Agreed.

There was a moment in the first half where Ronaldo played him through with a superb ball on the outside of his foot and he managed to mess it up whereas I imagine the likes of Torres would have beaten the defender on the outside and buried it.

Rooney is a decent player, but not due the overwhelming credit some give him as yet, imo.

He just doesn't have the same style to his game as Torres & Messi, i find him ungainly, he has his moments no doubt, but not often enough for me to date.

There was a moment in a game the other day, when he controlled the ball, or attempted to, and with that crew cut he looked like a skinhead trying to play football with Doc Martins on, as i say very ungainly sometimes.

Commentators do go over the top you'r eright, and the commentators tonight are Manc fans are they not? I thought Tyldsley was at least... anyway, I actually think he almost deserves it..sort of...he's obviously hit form, and with Berba alongside him I think he will have his best season yet, goalscoring-wise. He has it all though imo

Rooney is not consistent, his goals come in batches. He might score 20 goals this season but it won't be against 20 different teams.
