to be completely impartial, rooney is very very close to being a world class player. It is also somewhat unfair to compare him to Messi, Ronaldo and Torres simply because he plays a totally different position to each player - Rooney plays as a link-man striker to great effect. Also, Rooney has an unbelieveable hunger for the ball. One example is when he lost the ball at around the 90th minute, they were 3 up and the game was won but he had to track back about 15 or 20 yards and win the ball back off the celtic defender..... i don't think ronaldo would have done it for them if it was 0-0 and in injury time to be honest.

However, i do fundamentally agree that rooney is totally over-rated simply because he is english. It is a load of cock. But that is the truth with many english players to be perfectly honest. They are always so ****in overrated it is unreal. I reckon only about 3 or 4 england players would get into the Spain, Argentina or Brazil squads right now.... England didn't even qualify for the last euros yet all of a sudden, because you beat belarus, borat's crowd and caught a croatia team on the hop, you think you are going to win the world cup... quiet frankly (pardon the pun!) it is a load of ****in bull**** and that english cockiness is partially the reason why a lot of the world hate yee tan cunts!!!

So? He's not playing as a centre forward per se so this happens in that position. He consistently contributes to victories week in week out regardless of his goals tally. Ok maybe he doesn't score enough, last season Ronaldo was the main man but Rooney played a massive part in that. They won the league and the CL ffs

Whilst I do agree that Rooney was integral to their success last season, I still believe that Rooney will hit a massive sticky patch sometime soon and will look rather normal. Its because its being highlighted in the press now that he looks 'wonderful' and God's greatest gift since water, fire, trees etc.

Rooney is a fantastic player and will only get better.

For those of you who think he is average maybe you should listen to what our very own Carra and Gerrard have to say about him. He is a very hard worker and has a great football brain. His finishing is at times erratic but he's still a young man.

His form at the moment could be a flash in the pan or a sign of things to come, we don't know. All I can say is that ever since Euro 2004 it has been obvious that Rooney has all the ability required to be a regular goalscorer. His problem is he is played out of position and that he is like Gerrard - Goes looking for the ball instead of staying in position and being 100% effective.

I can tell you now that with him in our team we would be guaranteed League Champions. Rooney behind Torres with Gerrard linking up would be immence. Hopefully Keane can find his form and be this player for us.
              Forwards.......

You can only beat what you're up against.

Maybe we should add that in truth Rooney was MOTM against Croatia and that he also had a fantastic game against Chelsea...............

Bit in bold is absoloute ****e.

Lampard, A. Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Gerrard and Rooney would walk into everyone of those squads, no question.

I would suspect that there would also be others.

Disagree with the Lampard bit...yes, he is a good midfielder, but not good enough to replace the players already playing in that position. Same may quite easily go for Ashley Cole, but i'm not completely sure who plays at left back for some of those countries.

Rooney has not been used correctly up until now, as a second striker he's one of the best in the world, but they turned him into Ronaldo's bitch last season which was detrimental to his individual performances.

Finishing has never been his greatest asset, even if he is in some great form right now, but he's ****ing good in everything else and if you've got a target man playing in front of him, he'll do a lot of damage.

I actually think that Rooney has the ability to be the best player in the world. When he is scoring goals he is a truly world class player - he links attacks, works hard in attack and defense and unlike Kuyt (who also does many of these things) can bring the ball out from deep and has a real turn of pace along with the goal threat. If he can add the intelligence to his game to regularly know when to hustle and when to get into goal scoring positions in the same game then he will be as good as anyone I think.

I agree that the media tend to over hype where he is at the present in that he hasn't consistently shown he can do both parts of the description. I thought he was an excellent part of the United machine last year but they needed someone to score goals and were lucky that Ronaldo stepped up when Rooney and Tevez didn't really. Currently he is on a good run of goal scoring form but he has always been a streaky striker - to warrant the praise given to him and step up to the upper echelons of world players he needs to do it for at least the majority of a season game in game out.
