Haha, yeah, well there is that.

I wouldn't say "outraged" exactly, I'd say something like "scathing" instead - and although you do have a fair point about him just doing what is his right to do, I think the issue people have is the manner in which he is doing it rather than what he is doing per-see. We all remember the months of "I have no intention of leaving" and "it'll be fine at the end of the season" (yeah, I know I made those quotes up but anyway), and it does seem like he's doing exactly the same thing at Newcastle.

I would find Owen running his contract out far more palatable if he appeared (and yes, it is only appearance rather than necessarily reality) to be a bit more honest about his intentions.

Dont get me wrong here, i dont think he's a paragone of virtue (or whatever the expression is ). I just dont really see him as different to 90% of other footballers, they do what they like, they lie, they say what they need to say to get what they want. It's the same with managers and clubs too. That's just football i'm afraid. I think it's naive to expect honesty and integrity in an industry where there's millions of pounds at stake.

                  From a Newcastle fan:

What's your take on the Michael Owen saga?

Michael Owen will almost certainly leave NUFC at the end of the season and I can't say I blame him. He'll want to be back in the England squad at least ahead of the 2010 World Cup and frankly the club Ashley has turned us into is no good for a player of his class and aspirations. Kevin Keegan wanted Owen tied down to a new contract last March but they have waited until December to make him any kind of offer. Owen will look after himself and the notion he owes anything to us is laughable given the mercenary nature of PL football. Loyalty is a currency only supporters deal in. That said, he's our best player by a mile and when he goes it will further damage the reputation and standing of NUFC. His departure will hardly encourage the recruitment of players of a similar class. He's a class act, though it's undeniable he does have quiet games - I'd put that down to the lack of creativity in our side and the absence of a strike partner who complements his qualities.

I don't like him as a person and it comes as no surprise that he will leave Newcastle.

However Business is Business and if we can get him dirt cheap then we should get him. He would make a fantastic squad player and if we get him in january for a couple of million he could make the difference thats needed to cross that line and lift the premiership.

I don't expect anything from him tomorrow though because we are too good to give him chances

No issue with him wanting to leave but he's doing himself no favours by not coming straight out and saying he wants to play for a club Challenging for trophies.I understand though that unless he knows one of those clubs are interested then he'd be putting himself in a bit of a bind by saying it.

Its the same thing as when he left us,he never said he wanted to go to try and win things elsewhere which is why there's such resentment toward him.

IMO the only thing he owes Newcastle is honesty.

Leave it out please, mate. The big bald b*st*rd had it coming.

                            Otherwise I tend to agree.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
