Manchester City boss Mark Hughes says the club's big-money move for Brazilian superstar Kaka makes football and business sense.

Talks are ongoing between City and AC Milan over a reported world record £91m transfer for the 26-year-old.

"The money involved is something we feel, from a football and business point of view, works," said Hughes.

"The process has moved forward at a pace this week but people shouldn't be thinking that it is just a whim."

The sheer size of the figures involved in the proposed deal has made headlines around the world, but Hughes said it was all part of a considered plan from the club's hierarchy.

"It's been done with structure and understanding," he said.

"We're all very much involved in that process; myself from a football point of view and (chief executive) Garry Cook and (chairman) Khaldoon Al Mubarak from a club and business point of view.

"It would be naive to think I have not been involved in discussions over this transfer. I have had meetings about it and have had an input."

          Yeah sure.

There was a meeting where they told him and said they wanted to bid for Kaka and Hughes agreed he was a good player. Then he was told he wasn't going to be manager next season anyway so it was none of his business.

According to today's Guardian, City are so confident of signing Kaka they have decided on this formation for his first match.

Is it just me, or it is a bit like Spurs' 'Famous Five' set-up of the mid-90s, and we all know what happened there.

They need a stronger spine (CB and DM) to make it work.

The most bizarre thing is that Kaka has apparently said he wants Man City to prove they are building a world class squad........and then I read that they are still trying to sign Craig Bellamy!!!! and

And this is their problem. Hughes will be looking to build a solid squad full of proven but often unglamorous premiership proven players, but the owners, and increasingly the fans, appear to want global stars. New manager in the summer is a garantee I'd think. Hiddink etc.

BBC say De Jong is available on a release clause for less than £2m in the summer but Citeh are offering over £13m now
