'Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple.'
Sky Sports News understands that Newcastle United are set to appoint Alan Shearer in a managerial capacity for the remainder of the season.
Current boss Joe Kinnear is currently recovering from heart surgery and he was due to meet cardiologists next Monday to determine if he is fit to return to the touchline.
However, it has been suggested that he could move to a role upstairs, possibly as director of football, and St James' Park legend Shearer could be set to take over.
The 18th-placed Magpies are battling Premier League relegation and are desperate for a boost to escape the drop zone.
This would be the most brilliant April Fools joke. Just imagine all the geordies turning up at St James Park tomorrow morning with their usual Hail the King/Were saved parade and then Ashley pops out and says Haha April fools

Sounds like it could be an April fool gag that someone's set up by passing it on as insider info.
On the other hand it is Newcastle so anything is possible...
IF it is true it seems like a big gamble for Shearer, he could go from hero to villan in less than a couple of months, and possibly an even bigger gamble for the club taking on an inexperineced manager
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
Put it this way, if true and Shearer takes them down a division do you really think he will be a villain with the fans? Don't think so for one second. Even if they do go down I'm sure the fans would see the bigger picture (or have genuine excitement for the future - blind faith or otherwise)
They'd happily take a couple of years in the Championship in return for their demigod becoming manager imo.
