Keane to take Ipswich job

Roy Keane is poised to become the new Ipswich manager, just hours after the club announced the sacking of Jim Magilton from the post.
The former Sunderland boss has been offered the job subject to certain conditions, which include him moving from his current base in Manchester to a home nearer the Ipswich area. But it is understood that the Irishman is enthused by the prospect of a managerial return, and that he is ready to sign the contract within 24 hours.
Keane left his position as Sunderland manager in December, walking out on the Premier League club less than two years after leading them to promotion from the Championship.
There was since some speculation that the mercurial Keane may never return to football. But in a February interview with the Irish Times he insisted not only that he would move away from Manchester, but that he would consider managing in the Championship again, given suitable circumstances.
Magilton, a former Ipswich player, was at the helm at Portman Road for just under three years, but had failed to make "the progress both he and I expected this season," according to Ipswich owner Marcus Evans. Evans's wealth — earlier this year he was listed 30th in FourFourTwo magazine's football rich list with an estimated worth of £200m — should mean a hefty budget for Keane next season, should he choose to take the role.
Magilton's dismissal came just a day after former British Olympic Association head Simon Clegg was installed as the new chief executive at Ipswich.
Earlier, Clegg outlined the characteristics he would be seeking in a replacement for Magilton. "We want a winner," said Clegg. "Someone who is 100% professional and passionate who can take this club to where it aspires to be. We are not a club which hires and fires managers easily but it is important that we aspire to success at this club. We need to make sure that we have the right man in charge who can deliver that success.
"Hopefully they will have a track record of delivering that. We are very clear of the criteria for the sort of person we want to attract to this club."
You'd imagine that he's learned something from his time at Sunderlnd. Namely, don't just sign former teammates and fellow Irishmen. That rug really tied the room together.

I have a feeling that Keane will in the end become a very good manager. It took Bruce a number of missteps before he became the very decent manager he is today.
I guess there is always the chance that like someone like McCarthy he will be an excellent Championship manager but will never make it at the highest level but I get the impression he will grow with his experiences. If he is willing to trust his staff more then I think he will make it in the PL in time.
I think he is getting a decent club at the right time - they have money (at least on the Championship scale), a lot of players contracts are up in the summer so he will be able to pick and choose who to keep without a big wage bill hanging over him, he is taking over before the summer so will get to assess the squad before the transfer window."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

The biggest missed signing ever in my opinion, he said in his book he was waiting for Liverpool to come in for him.
I like the guy whether he captained Man U or not, speaks his mind and has the bollocks not to take any bull**** and does what he wants.
Edit - He spoke highly of Rafa in his only interview recently, maybe we can get some young lads on loan at Ipswich for next season. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
