To be honest, i'm with Fredo here. Apart from Whelan's comments (and he's always been one for the headline quote) there's no mention of Wigan rolling over and dying. In fact, if anything, this may make united feel like all they need to do is turn up and they will win...which, as we saw when they played Fulham, doesn't happen...everyone was up in arms about Hodgson's comments, but they sure as hell worked...maybe these ones will too.

I was at their game at Middlesbrough when all my staff were laughing." So, in effect, fat head is saying they just stopped working on things to try for this game, because there's no point - in other words, we're going to lose anyway, never mind, let's just give it up.

There has to be grounds for making some kind of complaint here, this is bordering on Wigan throwing the game.

As outrageous as it sounds, my point is never take word for word what's been said compared to what a journalist has written. I find it hard from a fellow professional to state things as straightforward as what this journo has written.

I remember when similar things were said by Roy Hodgson and we all know what happened.

'Shame if we beat United'. Doesn't it also imply they'll try to win!? FFS, I think you're all overdoing things here, as if there was a real conspiracy against us. I'm not eating that.

I registered my details with Wigan ages ago, in the event that i'd be unable to get tickets in the away end for when we play there - and might therefore be able to get tickets in the home end, in case it was necessary. As a result, they're regularly sending me emails trying to sell me tickets, merchandise, season tickets etc etc.

I've sent them the following email:

I've received various emails from you, with regards to purchasing tickets, merchandise or even a season ticket at the JJB.

After reading quotes about tonight's match against Manchester United, from Dave Whelan:

"It is a shame if we lose and a shame if we beat United,''

          And also Steve Bruce:

"We have been on easy street for a few weeks now,''

          and:

"We were trying a few things in training and we just had to stop because he (Ferguson) could make six or seven changes,'' Bruce said. "Their squad is that good it doesn't affect them. I was at their game at Middlesbrough when all my staff were laughing. He made seven changes bringing in Giggs, Scholes and Berbatov and the list goes on."

I have reached the conclusion that any club that has such a disregard for its fans, that it lets senior people from within it, virtually give up and accept defeat, do not deserve to have loyal supporters.

Frankly, it is a disgrace. As fans, we pay a huge amount of money to watch the club and it seems that tonight, we'll be watching the towel thrown in from the off. What's the point in paying to watch that?

We want to see commitment and desire at the club. It'd be bad enough if players were throwing in the towel before a ball had been kicked, let alone the chairman and manager. It's embarrassing and shameful, not to mention insulting to the supporters.

If these comments are backed up by an effortless, gutless performance in tonight's game, I will personally never purchase another ticket or piece of merchandise in my life. Myself and other fans I know refuse to be insulted and betrayed in such a manner and if the club insists on carrying on like this, they can do so without my support.
I know it makes no difference, but it hardly took any effort and it helped me vent some frustration at least

To be honest I have no idea why anyone cares what Whelan says. He's entitled to think/feel whatever.

I don't see Bruce's comments as much worse than Hodgson's either.

I'll post it if i get one.

Just to make you all feel better - as if it couldnt get worse - Steve ****ing Bennett is the ref tonight Talk about leaving nothing to chance!

He's the same twunt who reffed the mancs at Wigan last year - where he failed to give a penalty despite a Ferdinand handball in the box - and the mancs clinched the title there.

Whelan is a disgrace....'it'll be a shame if we lose' WTF!??!? Let's just hope the manc players think all they have to do is turn up (which let's face it is ALL they really have to do) and they get complacent.

If i was a bookie i'd have odds of about 100/1 for a Wigan win.

If you watch Whelan's interview, I can see no wrong in what he said, apart from the obvious arse licking.

UPDATE - i have received a reply from Wigan Athletic FC's Football Secretary:

                          Dear Sir,

Your e mail has come through to me for comment.

I would like to think that what your are quoting has been paraphrased.

Everyone at the Club is always trying to win every game. Steve Bruce has never beaten Man Utd and is keen to do so. The same applies to Wigan Athletic as a whole.

It will always be difficult to beat the English World and European Champions, but to do so will give everyone a lift.

Thanks for your comments but I can assure you, you have taken what was said out of context.

                          Regards

                          Stuart
Hardly a surprising reply. "They never said that" etc etc.

I should reply to him and suggest that they sue the Independent for publishing allegedly false quotes.

I'd love to see your reaction if Wigan wins or put up a brave effort tonight. Again, you're saying 'I'm not passionate' or 'I don't care' and all this kind of bollocks, but I'd rather say I've probably got the necessary distance to judge things on face value rather than speculating on various conspiracy theories.

If you actually watch this interview, you'll see that it varies from what has been printed and that some of his comments such as 'we'll try our best' or something of the sort aren't even in this original article.

If Wigan pull off a result tonight, my reaction will be one of sheer shock and delight. If, however, is a bigger word than two letters suggest.

As for your levels of passion, my previous post mentioned nothing of the sort.

Its no conspiracy theory to believe that Fat head will bend over for his lord and master as Wigan have nothing much to play for.

I'd be very surprised if they got something from the Mancs.
