For what it's worth, i sent back this reply:
Dear Mr Hayton,
Many thanks for your prompt reply.
I too sincerely hope that I have taken it out of context.
With regards to the possibility of the quotes being paraphrased or being inaccurate, it might be worthwhile for someone to look into this, as they have been published as fully accurate quotes by one of the UK's leading national newspapers and in the event that Mr Bruce or Mr Whelan actually did not say what they are quoted to have said, there may be a case for pursuing a correction from the Independent Newspaper.
I hope that, when it comes to tonight's game, all displays of admiration and hospitality are confined to the off-field environment and that everyone involved with what happens on-field is fully committed to making every attempt to earn three points.
If the players and/or staff have indeed been on 'easy street' for a few weeks, as Mr Bruce has been quoted as saying by the aforementioned publication, it is a real shame, as the prospect of qualification for European football was a realistic target once Premier League survival was secured and for a club such as ours, this would have been a historic and sensational achievement, not least for us supporters.
Once again, many thanks for your reply.
