Cambridge United Thread (including Liverpool XI game)
we played an XI at peterborough a couple of seasons back. not one decent player was involved. nothing against these matchs and I understand the reasoning but I think clubs should be more upfront to fans about who will actually play.
I know Liverpool regulars will know the score but for many kids and fans they really believe Liverpool are coming to town and its their one chance to see them and expect to see at least one or two recognisable faces if not more.
This game will sell out within hours and you will hear people moaning long into their inbred brothers and sisters after the game has finished about how they've been ripped off. I guarantee it.

Totally untrue in my experience. At least the ones for games at Cambridge no one has expected anything like a full team when the likes of Arsenal have come in previous seasons. Everyone really enjoys seeing potential young stars and preseason is always treated as a laugh in the lower leagues - and to spot player who you might want to loan.

I'd forgotten all about this thread so my first thought on seeing the title was we're going to sign some old has-been as previously suggested by dww during one of his rare departures from sanity.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
I guessed as much really. A few decent young players I guess.
Are you in the away stand? It'll be my first time in the posh environs of that end.
I'm glad the U's have at least appointed a manager before this match. Bit of a pisser that Brabin left though as he seemed pretty good.
Yeah, i should be in the away end. I haven't bought tickets in advance but i gave them a call earlier and they said there were plenty left for all areas of the ground, including the away end - if i can't get in up there then i'll probably sit in the main stand.
Brabin did seem like a decent boss - the U's desperately need some continuity in the dugout if they want to get back into the football league.
I was impressed by United actually - good passing and organisation for a team who only just got a new manager. Until their fitness faded they held us pretty well.
Liked the left backs in both halves for us (Irwin and Buchtmann). Chris Mavinga looked good at CB. Up front we were all nice touches but very little end product apart from when they swapped left back and whoever was on the right torn into them briefly.

Just out of curiosity which players played (I know there were no first teamers) I'm guessing they were mostly youth players but was there anyone that could be considered on the fringes of the squad this year or were they all players who will becoming through in the next few years?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
