I think he would do a good job. Lyon seem pretty good. Not sure it would happen though. Certainly better than Hoddle. I thought Hoddle was sacked for the wrong reasons but he just like Eriksson failed to make a team capable of doing anything other than being hard to beat and didn't have the ability to make telling changes to counteract opponents or change the course of the game, and if anything the England squad is now less suited to his prefered 3-5-2 system than it has been for a while.

Agreed Houlier would do a fine job, his problem was not tactical but that he bought too many ****e players. with this taken out of his hands, I'm sure he would do a great job in the England set up. I just wonder whether the youth would get enough of a chance under him.
OK so appoint him Director of Football like he was when France won it. He's good on structure, not so good at man-management and tactics IMO.
He inherited a pretty good squad at Lyon - they had won the title four times in a row, hadn't they? I know players have left and he's brought others in but he did have something of a headstart at Lyon.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
i was actually taking the piss, but if all you people want him as national coach, good luck to you all.
do you not all feel that he took alot of credit for France winning the world cup, in a similar way he claims to have built melwood? even though alot of it was in the pipeline before he was appointed?

hmmm
Yes - I agree.
Out of interest mate, who would you rather manage Wales:
Serious answer: I'd go back to Glen Hoddle, easily the best England manager since Sir Bobby and possibly better than him. He got sacked because of comments he made about reincarnation. Sven went around having affairs with all unsundry. The reason I'd go for Hoddle is that I think England needs an Englishman in charge and Hoddle is proven at international management and he is older and wiser now.
the thing that is making me laugh is the press have been desperate to have a english manager and now we have one and as soon as he has lost his first game they turn on him
The future you have, tomorrow, won't be the same future you had, yesterday.
I think the FA wanted Venables all along but were aware of the backlash if they appointed him immediately since they got rid of him before for reasons that were not related to the team performances. Since then the FA have been exposed more than once. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Maclaren ousted and Venables put in charge.
Agreed.
If you've lost your faith in love and music the end won't be long
Big bad Sam for me - we'd play holding, defensive football but at least we'd have a chance of winning a few matches and play physical, fast football. With the players we have, I think he's best suit the job.
