Totally agreed but what is undisputable is that they are now a serious player in the Premier League.

They'll get close this season IMO but not close enough. Over the next 2/3 seasons though they'll definitely break into the top four or make it a top five.

Depends what you mean by serious player. They're playing for 5th IMO, along with Villa, Everton and Spurs.

Well in financial terms they're top of the league.

They've directly affected their rivals in the transfer market and we all know they have the capability to outbid anyone and offer better personal terms.

Also there's no disputing their team and squad is improving at a pretty dramatic rate, not forgetting this is their first full close season transfer window.

I expect them to finish 5th or thereabouts and appoint Mourinho next season.

They're the richest of the rich, for sure. And i think you might be onto something with Mourinho. But so far, i think they're spending fairly poorly.

170k/week for Adebayor is utterly insane. I don't care how much money they have, nobody ever became that rich by flushing millions down the toilet.

So Bellamy, Santa Cruz, Robinho, Tevez, Benjani, several others AND Adebayor? They're not even in Europe ffs, that dressing room is going to be a nightmare of overpaid and underplayed footballers

Indeed. They're relying on mercenaries with no desire or will to win for City, to turn them into contenders. No chance.

Even Chelsea had Terry and Lampard, at least. And they were already top 4 contenders when Abramovich came in.

Ngog's a better player than Adebayor. If Arsenal get decent money for him they'll be made up.

I dont think they've bought brilliantly but Barry and Tevez are definitely good signings and better than what they have.

They do run the risk of having too many underused/overpaid players though.

Gonna be pretty interesting to see how they get on.

Plus their biggest transfer successes were the likes of Drogba and Essien, big fees and wages obviously but for both of whom Chelsea was a step up in their careers. You could say the same of Cech, Carvalho, and several others too. Contrast what happened with them to the likes of Shevchenko.

There is no way without European footy that Hughes will be able to keep even half his strikers happy. Its just stupid.

Dunno though Mike, if they were so fussed about european football, would they have gone to City in the first place? Perhaps they can withstand one season in the domestic wilderness though, you might be right.

Imagine (and it doesnt take that vivid an imagination) that they dont qualify for europe next season. There could be a comical little exodus this time next year.

Is it possible to have a "little exodus"?!

I think I know what you mean though, all that expectation - if it doesn't work out next season then there will be lots of players looking for a transfer elsewhere.

Fair enough! There might be a miniscule massive departure of players next season.

Oh come on! Arsenal do have a nack of selling players at the right time, but to say Adebayor's **** fellas, is a bit far fetched.

I do agree he's a mercenary though, seem to remember a recent interview where he basically said he's in footy for the money...understandable since I believe he sends a lot of it back home, but still make you wonder of the desire of such a player to really put their neck on the line for the club.
                                Hello mert.
