His biggest achievement for me was creating a genuinely outstanding Ipswich team which really should have won the league back in 1981 (though they did land the UEFA Cup, at a time when it was a competition worth winning). He brought through some great players - Beattie, Wark, Butcher, Mariner, Burley, Gates, Osman - and tagged Muhren and Thijssen on to add a bit of class. Unfortunately, they didn't really have too much strength in depth. But for 2 or 3 years, they threatened to really kick on and become a force.

RIP Sir Bobby, you will be missed.

As has been said it was truly infectious to listen to him speak about the game.
We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

There are not many men in this game who are respected as highly as Sir Bobby. A true legend of the game, a gent amongst some of the more less savoury characters.

Sir Bobby, you'll never walk alone. Heaven FC just got better

                          Gutted.

An absolute legend and a gent. For me I will always treasure the memories from the World Cups in 86 and 90 when we went so close. A true football man and more importantly a thoroughly decent chap who didnt deserve his shocking treatment at the hands of the press. Sadly a trend which continued after his departure as England manager although the subsequent incumbents were no doubt more deserving of such treatment.

Newcastle's current demise can be traced to their decision to sack him in 2004 after losing 2 of the first 3 games. Who did they think they were? He'd turned them round and saved them from relegation 2 years previously and brought them champions league football....but no that wasnt good enough for the hapless geordies. That decision and huge disloyalty alone is enough for them to deserve their current predicament.

He'll be sadly missed and the world will be a poorer place without him. RIP Bobby, YNWA.

Thats my main memory of Bobby - Italia 1990 - thanks Bobby for the best time I ever had as an England fan. Amazing Summer that was.

Thinking of Gazza as well right now - he must be broken after hearing the news. Sad times.

I watched the semi prone on the sofa after imitating a Maradona dive a week earlier and splitting my knee open to the bone and having 6 stitches in it. It was extremely swollen and any kind of body movement would leave me in agony. Every time we nearly scored, Gazza's agonisingly cm's short of poking the ball in and Waddle hitting the post, in particular had me screaming in agony as i made an involuntary movement of the type you cant help when watching an important match. I was in SO much pain that im not ashamed to say i let out a little bit of wee on a couple of occasions as i winced in pain. Not forgetting the tears at full time. Great memories.
