The boyfriend of footballer Calum Davenport's sister has appeared in court for allegedly stabbing the player in both legs with a kitchen knife.

The 25-year-old was also charged with attacking Davenport's mum
Worrell Whitehurst appeared at Bedford Magistrates' Court charged with attacking the 26-year-old West Ham defender.
The 25-year-old from Finsley Walk, Derby, is also charged with attacking Davenport's mother, Kim Stupple.
His pregnant girlfriend, Cara Davenport, the player's sister, was in court for Whitehurst's brief appearance.
She burst into tears when he was brought in.
Whitehurst has also been charged with driving whilst disqualified and possession of a blade.
A 19-year-old man arrested shortly after the incident has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Davenport had been on a night out with friends before the alleged attack in driveway of his mother's home in Springfield Avenue, Bedford.
He suffered heavy bleeding after being repeatedly stabbed in both legs and has since undergone emergency surgery at Bedford Hospital.
He is now in a serious but stable condition while his mother is recovering well.
Davenport cost West Ham £3m when he joined them from Tottenham during the summer of 2007.
He did not figure in the east London club's first game of this season at Wolves and has recently been linked with a move.
Bedford-born Davenport spent a spell on loan at Premier League rivals Sunderland last season and has also been loaned out to Watford.
The centre-back started his career at Coventry and has also played on loan at Southampton and Norwich.

We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

The World's gone crazy - it seems commonplace to see thugs brandishing guns, knives and ferocious dogs on our streets. The vast majority don't want this to happen to our society, what will it take to make it stop?

I hope Calum Davenport and his Mum make a full recovery and would love the vile scumbags who did this to be locked away for the rest of their lives. I know that won't happen, unless of course something bad happens to them.

West Ham defender Calum Davenport is on the road to recovery after being released from intensive care.

The Hammers centre-half has spent the last week in hospital after being stabbed at his Bedford home.

The 26-year-old and his mother were attacked last Friday and required urgent medical attention.

Davenport was stabbed in both legs, with the severity of his injuries requiring him to undergo surgery.

He is, however, making steady progress in his rehabilitation from the incident and is no longer deemed to be in a serious condition.

While Davenport has been given positive news, with amputation fears allayed, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to revive his career as a professional footballer.

I would like to see his attackers given the death penalty.

Worthless pieces of ****; society would be a much better place without them.

A happy story for Sunday with West Ham's Calum Davenport - who almost lost his legs following a knife attack in August - being told he will play again despite a 15-inch scar on his leg. (News of the World)
                          Cool.

                              So this gets crazier

West Ham United footballer Calum Davenport has been charged with assault following an incident in which he was stabbed in both legs in Bedfordshire.

The former Coventry and Spurs star was stabbed in the legs in an incident at his mother's home in Kempston in September this year.

The 26-year-old, who denies any wrong doing, spent six days in intensive care in Bedford Hospital after the incident.

He has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm on a woman.

In a statement issued by his PR company, Mr Davenport said: "I am deeply shocked and disappointed at the decision that has been made to charge me with assault.

"I deny any wrong doing and will plead not guilty. For legal reasons I am unable to discuss the matter further at this time."

Worrell Whitehurst, 25, has appeared in court charged with attacking the central defender as well as his mother, 49-year-old Kim Stupple, in the driveway of her home in Springfield Avenue, in August.

                              WTF?!?!
