Portsmouth make plea to Premier League to sell players
Cash-strapped Portsmouth have asked the Premier League for permission to sell players outside the transfer window.
The club have debts of around £60m and are due back in court on 1 March to contest a winding up order by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.
The club confirmed: "We have put in a request to the Premier League to sell players outside the transfer window."
However, Portsmouth will need the go-ahead from world governing body Fifa which polices the transfer window rule.
A spokesman said in a statement that Fifa "has received correspondence from the FA relating to the financial situation at Portsmouth FC and the proposed measures to be taken in this respect."
