I was gonna say the same thing. It's said the City scouts all wanted to leave cos they were fed up with scouting up and coming 'gems' only for City to go and sign Aguero, Silva, Nasri etc. We could all do that.

Fallows has apparently had a big input, particularly in the Sturridge signing. Shaping up nicely isn't it. Lots of upheaval but if some big names want out (Pepe, Suarez, Skrtel etc) there's not a lot we can do.

Always a fear that we may buy some dudds but after Jan, and the links this summer, we look to be after some real exciting players and some good young players at that. I'm really not that fearful if a few big players leave. I think we're building a team and a squad now that will not be reliant on one or two match winners, and it's what we've needed for a very long time.

Coutinho is absolute quality. £8m for a 20 yo with his ability

Well that kind of depends who we replace Pepe and Suarez with. Pepe for Begovic is probably an upgrade. Begovic is a better keeper in my view. If we get quality players in and continue to develop our play then can't see why Coutinho will leave. I can see us being successful in not too distant future. Don't forget that Coutinho's career had pretty much stalled at Inter. He's raised it quite a few levels here

Agreed, but I'm slightly alarmed that given some progress last season, seeing some some of the established better players go, we'll bet left with another bedding in season .

Yep, agree with that.

The main concern is getting a new central defence/GK played together before the season starts, and I reckon that's why we see so many links in that department and a lot less in the attacking department. Defence is notoriously harder to get to function well in a short time and it costs points if it doesn't work, so it's IMO a clear priority to get that sorted very quickly in this window.

I agree on Begovic but Pepe sort of represents the almost good times for me. That Rafa team with Xabi, Mascherano, young Stevie, Torres. Lil Luis too (who I probably miss the most. I ****ing loved that guy). If they'd just been able to hold it together one more year we'd be conquering all and sundry and Pepe is last man standing from there now from the players we brought in. The rest all had enough and wanted out but Reina didn't and stayed even through the darkest days. The romantic in me wants to see him there when we get back to the top.

But if he wants to go then Begovic would be a great option.

I think the last time Liverpool replaced the dentral defence and keeper all in one go was Westerveld / Henchoz / Hyypia wasn't it?

From what I remember, with those three, by xmas LFC had the best defensive record in the league. I suppose it depends on the system and the recruits. THey have to be spot on though - its a big risk.
