absolutely. If we sign mignolet expect barca to bid around 5m euros for reina. With a first choice goalie already signed we have no choice but to accept the deal.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostBuying Mignolet would be a waste of money IMO if Reina's staying.

Or as Barca do, they come in late for Reina and he says he wants out and we are left no time for a replacement. Some positions you really cannot take a risk and I suspect the club already know Reina wants out. We cant always wait for a player to decide what he wants then react. That is a whole lot worse

I want Pepe to see out his contract but if not I’m clinging to the hope that an agreement is in place with Barca to let Pepe go next season and him and Mignolet will be fighting it out for the No.1 spot this year.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I dont see the problem here. He wants to play for Barca, and at least has some history there. He has been a good servant to this club. He seems to be being honest in what he has said.
I agree its madness to blow cash on a keeper if Pepe is staying. It does not seem to me like he is trying to engineer a move anywhere else, or playing games with anyone. If Barca pay up next year, then he goes with my blessing. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

Paying £9-£12m for Mignolet must mean Reina is going and I do not begrudge him that move. He was the best in the league and possibly the world for a few seasons but has dropped below that level now.
A change might be good for both parties.

I'm not sure it does mean he's going this window. If we have strong finances and know that Reina might want to leave this season or next then the right thing to do if possible would seem to me to be to secure the succession now."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I can see that might be a factor, but he might just back his ability against that of Reina. He may just want more money or feel that being at Suderland with Di Canio might hurt his chances for some reason.
In the end who knows, we just have to wait an see. I'm happy enough that we will definitely have a good keeper next season."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
