Good post but I have to disagree slightly with the bolded part. He never needed to pull of Hollywood saves after saves as his positioning was so good. But at his peak, he was worth 15 points a season. He would have do nothing for 2 games and then suddenly in the 82nd minute he would pull of an unbelievable save to keep us in the game. His focus was just brilliant.

If the defence is doing its job properly then the keeper stands a good chance of making a save. We shouldn't be allowing strikers to get into an attacking position with the ball so close to goal. I have a lot of sympathy for Reina, we're leaving him too exposed too often. I do think he's regressed, but I don't think that the defenders or the defensive set-up has helped him too much,.

Thats fair enough up until a point but mate, he has been questionable, hes distribution has been off, his positioning has been off, it has been said for Skirtels back pass he should have been at the corner of the box rather than standing on the line, he has been beaten far far far to often on his near post. I beleive theres a problem with the coaching at the moment... I am not suggesting letting him go or anything .. but we need to sort him out pronto .. perhaps even dropping himOriginally posted by TheElephantMan View PostIf the defence is doing its job properly then the keeper stands a good chance of making a save. im sure someone suggested a change of goalkeeping coach
it worth a try and an easy option to freshen up his game and try and sharpen his thinking. hes looking a little stale.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

There was lot of rumours after FSG cleared the house last last season but nothing happened.Originally posted by Liverpool View PostWasnt he rumoured to be coming back?
That to me is the biggest issue now as his positioning is extremely poor.Originally posted by peekay View PostGood post but I have to disagree slightly with the bolded part. Sad to say it he is turning into a liability.
He has been on decline for while but it is really getting bad now.
Let's hope he can bounce back and in hurry.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

All he seems to do is punt balls (badly) at half time towards the reserve keeper, i.e. Brad Jones yesterday. Reina hasn't looked the same since Valero left three years ago and if it's true he still lives on the Wirral we should be looking at bringing him back as soon as possible.Originally posted by G View PostJohn Actherberg is still there so effectively yes we don't have oneThere is a light that never goes out. Good, logical idea.Originally posted by rushscored4 View PostAll he seems to do is punt balls (badly) at half time towards the reserve keeper, i.e. Brad Jones yesterday. Now we just need someone to sanction it.

Common sense should prevail here."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

I was beginning to think we'd taken Joe Corrigan back as GK coach...Life is NOT a journey to the grave with the goal of arriving safely in a prettily preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways in a shower of gravel and party shards, thoroughly used, utterly exhausted, and loudly proclaiming: "F*** ME, that was BRILLIANT!"

Absolutely. Everything I've heard about Valero points to him being an excellent coach both for the keepers and the forwards. He used to give Torres pointers about keepers he was about to face.
He does still live on the Wirral and is finally free from his Inter contractual obligations.
Reina himself should be suggesting this to Rodgers as no one else seems to be.

Rodgers might not care what Pepe says to him if he was planning on replacing him next summer anyway."I will make the boys feel your support"

True but he may also not like what he see's with the current GK coach and would be open to it.The more mistakes Pepe makes the more Pepe and his coaches will be getting looked at.I think if all is said and done he'd rather try things to get Pepe back to his best so that he doesn't have to use more of his limited budget on a keeper when there are far more needy areas.
A keeper of Pepe's vintage should be coming into his prime now not declining, I wouldn't give up on him yet.Give him what he needs to regain his form and get strikers in that score goals too, then he won't need to be perfect in every game.Last edited by G; 03-09-12, 07:04 PM.

Pepe Reina has until *January to show Brendan Rodgers he can fit into the new Liverpool and stop the club searching for a rival first-choice goalkeeper.
And Liverpool have moved to try to avoid future transfer deadline disasters by attempting to complete their new recruitment *set-up ahead of schedule.
link
Goalkeeper Reina has made a disappointing start to the season, making bad errors against Hearts and Arsenal. The Spaniard also looks uncomfortable with Rodgers’ style of encouraging his defenders to pass to and receive the ball from the keeper.
Reina has been a wonderful servant to Liverpool and has often performed heroics since signing for the club from Villarreal for £6m in 2005. But there is a feeling he lacks serious competition from reserves Brad Jones and Alexander Doni.
Going Dutch? Swansea's Michel Vorm is a possible replacement for Pepe Reina

Rodgers could look for a promising up-and-coming keeper to put pressure on Reina. But if the 30-year-old does not improve, then he will also consider trying to take his former Swansea keeper, 28-year-old Michel Vorm, to Anfield.
Liverpool are confident they will perform much better in the January *transfer window and will immediately start work on identifying targets.
Rodgers wants the men who will be responsible for finding new talent, Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter, to start work this month.
It had been expected *Fallows and Hunter would not formally join Liverpool from Manchester City until 2013. But, following the botched summer transfer window, the Anfield club are trying to rush their *appointments through.
Fallows will be head of scouting and recruitment. Hunter will be chief scout.
Rodgers said: “Hopefully, this month our scouting team comes together and there will be a lot of great work between now and then, finding the targets that will fit into the way we are going to play going forward.”

This story appears in Sunday's The People newspaper.
Brendan Rodgers is ready to swoop for young German keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The Liverpool boss is unhappy with Pepe Reina and may trade the Spaniard in the January transfer window, but he has to find a replacement first.
Pepsy challenge: Rodgers gives Reina until January to secure his Liverpool future
Ter Stegen, 20, is at Borussia Monchengladbach and only narrowly missed out on Germany’s Euro 2012 squad despite making his debut before the finals.
The tall, commanding youngster has made his name in the Bundesliga and has been watched by both Manchester United and Tottenham in the past – but now the Kop have moved in at the head of the queue.
Rodgers is quickly compiling a dossier on Ter Stegen after deciding that Birmingham’s England rookie Jack Butland is too expensive and, at just 19, too raw for what Liverpool need this season.Last edited by Bender; 09-09-12, 07:50 AM.
