I'm not sure he's one who'd struggle with the ball at his feet. In fact I think he's amongst the best in the world at that.

It is clear he's a little off colour, but I do think form is temporary and class is permanent. I'm sure that when the team starts to improve so will he.

As for world class saves, he's never been one to pull of jaw dropping saves. His height and positioning meant most saves looked simple. Just the odd worldy really.

And to me he doesn't look like he's lost his skill as a keeper, just making mistakes that wouldn't normally happen. It's not like he's regressed physically and can't make the saves anymore, just started dropping a few clangers which he'd normally not make.

I think he just needs to focus better and maybe when we start scoring it will take the pressure off.
    Forwards.......

A piece written by the Mirror who have spent the last few years writing stories about Pepe and him moving, being unhappy etc.... he's not been playing well at all but I'd take anything that rag says with a massive pinch of salt.

        Aye. Terrible piece.

There is not a single quote in that article that indicates that Pepe has until January.

All bunch of assumptions and personal views.

Pepe Reina staying at Anfield, says agent

The agent of Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has dismissed rumours about his future at Anfield.

A disappointing start to the campaign, both individually and collectively for the Reds, has led to speculation about the 30-year-old.

With no one pushing him for his place, Reina is firmly entrenched as Liverpool's first-choice and his representative Manuel Garcia Quilon insists the player intends to keep things that way.

"There is no problem. Pepe has played over 300 games in the shirt of Liverpool," he told Calciomercato.com.

"It's clear that he is not facing an easy time. The team has gone wrong in these first few games and he has his responsibilities, like everyone else.

"When he returns to form it (the speculation) will all end.

"He still has four years remaining on his contract and the rumours about a possible exit are only just rumours."

Couple of year ago an article like that would have sent this place into meltdown, with every word being analyzed and argued over what it means........its obvious he wants out/no he's staying/agent trying to engineer move/agent trying to get more money with a new deal etc etc
Nowadays, a Liverpool side with or without Reina isn't exactly gonna be the end of the world.

I think the main issue with Reina is complacency, if we had a young ambitious back up keeper he would up his game to keep his place.

I was thinking the exact same thing for days. Shows how much Reina has let complacency creep in and how much we've noticed. For our sakes lets hope he pulls through this tough period and steps it up.

EXCLUSIVE: Pepe Reina 'stifled' by Brendan Rodgers' style at Liverpool FC

Liverpool's new style of play under Brendan Rodgers is stifling Pepe Reina, according to Everton legend Neville Southall.

The Spain international has endured a difficult run of games with the Anfield club, who recorded their first Premier League win of the new season with a 5-2 rout over Norwich City on Saturday.

Rodgers's approach at Swansea won widespread plaudits last season for its emphasis on passing and possession as the newly-promoted Welsh side recorded a respectable mid table finish.

Southall, once considered the best goalkeeper in England during his Goodison Park heyday, is a keen admirer of Reina's abilities but feels they are being restricted by this gradual tactic compared to the more direct approach used under previous Liverpool managers.

"Reina's never negative - he's always positive At Swansea they didn't try and look forward first, they looked back, whereas in the past he had [Fernando] Torres and [Luis] Suarez who he could hit it [to] straight away early," he told Click Liverpool.

"Now they've gone 'we don't need to do that. we'll play from the back' so he's stifled him a little bit. I think that's why he's had a little bit of a problem because they've gone 'you're really good at this but we don't want you to do that'.

"I think that's really hard with being so positive and wanting to go forward all the time and start things, they're now saying 'throw it to the wide men'.

"It's just the way they play but I think it's really, really stifling him at the moment. But every time he makes a mistake he just gets his head down and carries on doing what he does and I think he's a terrific player.

"If you look at a goalie who made a couple of mistakes, he's made them in some of the biggest games and he still gets on with it.

"That's what I like about him, his mental attitude. He's going to make mistakes and probably at the moment there's a lot more consistent players. But in terms of being positive in his distribution, you can see his brain's working as soon as he gets the ball.

"But, at the moment, he's having to play it out from the back so he throws it wide, to the full-backs. He doesn't want to do that really, he wants to go forward. I think it's quite difficult. He's now having to adjust and the players are now having to adjust.

"He made a lot of goals when he first came in but now he won't make as many goals because I don't think he's been allowed to make it. I think his distribution is a great weapon but they don't use it enough for me at times."

I think that's quite interesting actually, not really because of the tactical analysis of our play but because it's being said by a goalkeeper who therefore might have a good understanding of how many goalkeepers tend to think.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

First and foremost, he is part of the defence. I'm sure he'll adapt and if he feels strongly enough about it that he'd want to leave then that's his decision

                          When did Suarez leave?!

EDIT: Ah, I see what he's saying now. He's not saying "Now they've gone", he's essentially saying "Now they've gone and said..."

Quite apart from the possibility that we are underusing an asset, the argument could be that by reining (sorry about the pun) in his distribution, it affects his mentality which could be behind some of his mistakes. It sounds a bit farfetched to me but then I'm not a goalkeeper. Also mistakes were a feature well before Rodgers took over but then again he hasn't seemed happy for some time, especially when Hodgson was in charge. As you say though, he'll adapt so if there is anything in Southall's comments then it should only be a temporary issue.

And otherwise he'll move on from Liverpool and Liverpool will move on from him. I hope he stays of course.

Pre-Hodgson Reina did distribute the ball very well. He used to mix up long and short. It's only when Woy was in charge did he hoof it.
