It's Balague that was talking. He's nothing to do with the club, but has Spanish contacts. I think we said to Pepe that the ball was in his court and if Valdes stays, he stays. We obviously have to plan for life without him, until the other day we were all sure Valdes was going to Monaco and Reina would replace him.

Would've been an awkward position to fill regardless, but I've no doubt Pepe would have gone if Barca came calling, and we would have made an economic decision to replace him if it had of made sense.
It does after all cost us a fair bit to keep Pepe in the style he's become accustomed to.

Yeah, more likely that Barca approached Reina and said that Valdes was leaving and would he like to be his replacement. LFC said they would like him to stay but wouldn't stand in his way if Barca came calling. Now they haven't he stays and we have one less problem to solve this window, though if Valdes goes next summer...

I wonder if we could buy that Reading keeper who had a blinder against us and loan him back to them for a year for experience? Might be worth a punt. Not that excited about Begovic or Mignolet to be honest.
