no my point is champions league means champions from each league enter the competition .......if your gonna enter 2nd to 4th teams then rename the comp ......becuause as silly as it is allowing a 4th place play off it's just as silly allowing 2nd,3rd and 4th to enter a team only for champions of their own leagues

I fail to see how a team like Spurs getting into Europe would be a weaker side. They are a good club, as are Villa, and even City have the players. They would have every chance of getting as far as Liverpool, Arsenal, United, Chelsea.Originally posted by Assassin View PostThe FA are trying to make more money out of games. This is just the same bull**** that comes out of hole in Scudamores face. His last gem was a 39th game in some godforsaken place in the world.....what for MONEY.
England has 4 teams on merit, under the rules of Eufa it goes to the first 4 teams in the PL.
If this gets pushed through the FA face the prospect of LOSING money as I am convinced the Big 4 (Liverpool and the 3 other pretenders) will accelerate plans to leave the PL and start a Euro Super League with other elite clubs
One more thing, this will extend the season by a couple of weeks for play off teams. The season is long enough as it is, with the normal leagues, World cup, world cup qualifiers, Euro champs, Euro champs qualifyers, Confed cup, fecking Olympics etc, etc.....
And the rules of EUFA state no such thing, hence the fact this has happened in Holland, and the fact that the FA talked about giving the CL place to the FA Cup winners.
As far as the Big 4 goes, we are the pretenders at the moment...Arsenal too...either of us could easily find ourselves outside that elete group at anytime.

Agree, that's why i see no need for this change in the rules.

The 4 places should go to the best 4 teams in the league IMO

And whilst we're at it, lets scrap the play-offs in the other divisions...after all, the top three are there on merit.Originally posted by RoadEnd View PostI have a better idea. Why don't all 20 teams in the Premier League play each other twice during a season between the months of August and May - home and away - and the top 4 teams qualify for the 4 CL places.
Can I claim a prize?

Exactly. It's the Big 4 as we see it now that keep the extra 4th position moored in England to start with.Originally posted by PoolG View PostEngland has 4 places because its merited them due to the performance of its teams in Europe since the champions leagues inception.
Allowing second rate teams to participate with little hope of them reaching the latter stages could ultimately result in England losing its entitlement to 4 places in the first place.
What would the prem league think about that.Hello mert.

I was speaking to some friends about this and they were saying what a good idea it was, and how it would make the end of the season more interesting, most of them support mid-table type teams (Wigan, Blackburn and Bolton etc).
Just to stir things up I suggested a similar idea at the bottom end of the table: 19th and 20th go down automatically whilst there is a 'relegation playoff' featuring the teams in 15th to 18th where if you win you're safe but if you lose you go to the final, lose there and you're relegated. For some reason this suggestion didn't go down well and had them suggesting it should be decided on the final league table. Can't think why
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

this idea of a play off for the cl spot is ****ing ridicuous. you dont play 38 games a season busting a nut just to let some average small team like a brum or everton who have finished 20+ points behind you take your rightful place in the biggest club comp in the world. IMO it belittles the history of the comp. it is exaclty like the playoffs to the prem etc.... a disgracefull if somewhat exciting end to a season.
i am of the opinion thought that the champions league should be for champions only anyway with 2-3 in all major leagues playing in a seperate european cup.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.
