He scored the winning goal in the african nations.
Apparently he's scored 6 goals in 8 internationals.
Pretty unsurprising discovery that Defoe and Rooney isn't a viable partnership tonight then. It'll be interesting to see who gets the big man alongside Rooney role in the final squad.
Still seems a lot of positions up for grabs actually. Especially considering how easily we qualified.

Crouch should be in the side on merit. Defoe's having a good season, but when it comes to England, Crouch delivers time and time again.
Some players are just more suited to international football than others, even if the others may outperform them at club level.
Crouch always seems to look class for England but whether Defoe, or the useless buffoon Heskey, Crouch always seems to get overlooked for the first XI.
