The final nail in the World Cup coffin

Manchester United striker Michael Owen will not play again this season after pulling his hamstring in the 2-1 Carling Cup win over Aston Villa.

The 30-year-old, who scored United's equaliser at Wembley, pulled up while chasing a through ball in the first half and was replaced by Wayne Rooney.

The injury ends Owen's hopes of playing for England at the World Cup.

"It is a terrible blow for the lad," said United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "It is more serious than we thought."

    More to follow.

How often has Owen got seriously injured while running, with nobody near him? Can think of at least 3 times.

No one knows Owens injuries better than LFC, so no wonder Rafa wasn't keen, an accident waiting to happen it was.

I wonder, if he hadn't played that night years ago at Leeds when he did it for the first time, if his career path would have been any different.

And some morons even suggested we'd signed him.

Considering Rafa never actually managed Owen, let alone during his worst times of injury at LFC, i very much doubt he had any real enormous insight into his condition.

PeteBest, why are you calling people morons? Poor show.

I think he’ll be gone in the summer. I’m not sure if it was post Carling Cup, but for the whole interview all he kept going about was how he’s been fit all season, how this is a new injury so won’t be serious, how he could play more games if need be. I was just waiting for him to say how “cool” and “charismatic” he was.

It didn’t sound like an International plea, so I’m convinced he was touting for another club.

It’s just a shame he got them two important goals for the Mancs, otherwise his signing would have been an unequivocal failure.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Moron isn't a particularly bad word it just demonstrates moronism.

Yeah, because obviously he wouldn't bother asking the Lfc medical staff eh, or the people at Madrid, wouldn't have bothered asking them either...he's not meticilous is he our Rafa.
