    Fabregas leg break shocker

CESC Fabregas fears his season could be over after suffering a suspected broken leg during Arsenal's dramatic 2-2 Champions League draw against Barcelona at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners skipper hammered home a vital penalty despite apparently breaking his leg in the preceding foul.

He had been a doubt for tonight's game after suffering severe bruising to his knee and leg during the Barclays Premier League game at Birmingham.

However, Fabregas returned to lead the side, and played a pivotal role in their comeback after falling 2-0 down to a brace from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

During the closing stages, after substitute Theo Walcott had pulled a goal back, the Gunners skipper - who would have missed the second leg against his old club after being booked in the first half - was bundled over by Carles Puyol and awarded a penalty.

It was during that collision with the Barcelona captain, who was shown a red card by Swiss referee Massimo Busacca, that Fabregas suffered the latest problem which the Spain international believes could even end his season - and perhaps threaten a place at the World Cup.

"I am not good," said Fabregas, who left Emirates Stadium on crutches.

"We have to wait for tomorrow, but I hope I can wear the Arsenal shirt again this season.

"I fear the worst, which is that I have broken something.

"I do not think it is going to be good news, but still I hope there will be.

"When I took the penalty, I was quite strong, but after when I went to get the ball, I could not walk any more.

"It is the fibula. I think I put my leg between Puyol's when I was fouled, and kicked it.''

Fabregas added: "Until the penalty, I was feeling quite good.

"It has been an amazing experience and I will remember it for the rest of my life.''

Tottenham are going to beat them arent they? They'll go out next week, be behind in the title race, be without Fabregas and Gallas and be sulking.

There's no way he'd have been able to carry on playing if he'd broken his leg.

Nobody has a broken leg and doesnt know about it.

A fractured bone in your leg, yes thats possible. He was struggling soon as he hit the pen.

Actually it has happeened many times before, Its often not known til the bone is x-rayed, then a crack is found in the bone. For example if the fibula was cracked its quite possible to walk or even run and the tibia will hold you fine.

Yep, your leg doesnt have to be bent the other way for it to be broken. Modric was taken off with a suspected calf injury earlier in the season but the next day it was confirmed he'd broken his leg after tests were done.

Its a misconception that a facture is different to a break, its all the same.

Thats what I mean. A small fracture is still a broken leg

He'd have been in agony though, not waddling around a football pitch oblivious.

yeah but players have broken bones in the foot before and not realised till they came off the park and the adrenaline left them
