Manchester City have made a formal request to the Premier League over an emergency goalkeeper loan.

Manchester City may ask to recall goalkeeper Joe Hart but, under rules, there is a 'no-recall clause' in his contract because he joined Birmingham on a season-long loan.

Shay Given will see two specialists in the next 72 hours after dislocating his shoulder against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.
    Responsibility

City have three Premier League games remaining and the club's request for an emergency goalkeeper will be considered by the Premier League Board, who have ultimate responsibility for any decision.

City's number two goalkeeper, Stuart Taylor, is still not fit after a knee operation and fourth choice David Gonzalez is still suffering from a groin injury.

It leaves Faroe Islands international Gunnar Nielsen as first in line and academy player Loris Karius providing cover.

It appears they have a full international ready to step in, in Nielsen, so they will get told to do one.

And rightly so,,, I swear I reckon they would try and buy fourth place from the premier league if they thought they would get away with it.....Nutjobs.

Manchester City make emergency goalkeeper request

Manchester City keeper Given was carried off at the Emirates
Manchester City have written to the Premier League asking for clearance to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan deal until the end of the season.

And BBC Sport understands the request is set to be granted, even though the transfer window closed on 1 February.

Shay Given will miss City's last three games after dislocating his shoulder in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Saturday.

Stuart Taylor is also out and Joe Hart is on loan at Birmingham, which leaves only the inexperienced Gunnar Nielsen.

            More to follow.

Thats laughable, its not like they had to put a player in goal or something.

Surely they could just throw a mill or two at a team with a great goalie who have nothing to play for now? Hardly fair.

With Torres, N'Gog and now possible Kuyt out injured, I think we should be allowed to bring in an emergency striker. Preferably David Villa.

Would think Spurs would be properly pissed off about this.

Always been the rules tho, an emergency keeper can be called up if the need is desperate enough. It's the only position this is allowed, no outfield position can be filled. I think it's cos keeper is a specialised position, whereas all other positions can be ably filled by other players...ie, a DM can cover CB, an AM can play as a utility Striker,k that sort of thing.

No problems with City requesting this, it just depends on if the PL deem that they need one that badly.

If they've got an international keeper in reserve why should they be allowed to loan one in??
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I agree that there is no problem asking for it but in these days of huge squad and given the fact their options include an international (there aren't even number restrictions for the squad at the minute) it seems a bit rich for the request to be granted.

Ridiculous if it's allowed. Why sign somebody if you aren't going to use him with the situation dictates?
