Harry Redknapp - manager of the year

    ????????

They've spent a fortune. Granted they're still punching above their weight, but....er...Roy Hodgson??

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has been named Barclays manager of the season.

The award recognises the 63-year-old's achievement in guiding Spurs to fourth place in the Barclays Premier League and securing qualification for the Champions League for the first time.

"I'm delighted to receive the award but it's a team effort with Kevin (Bond), Joe (Jordan), Clive (Allen), Tony (Parks), Tim (Sherwood), Les (Ferdinand) and all the coaching and fitness staff," he told the club's website, www.tottenhamhotspur.com.

"Really, I'm just part of the team.

"It's all down to the players and what they've achieved. It's down to them really and a real honour to receive it."

Redknapp took over the Spurs reins in October 2008 with the team bottom of the table having picked up only two points from their opening eight games.

The north London club ensured a top-four finish this season by winning 1-0 at Manchester City on Wednesday night, and could even pip Arsenal to third if they win at Burnley on Sunday and Fulham beat the Gunners.

The accolade was voted by the Barclays awards panel, which is made up of football's governing bodies, the media and fans.

Redknapp becomes only the second manager since the formation of the Premier League to win the award without having won the league, following in the footsteps of George Burley after the Scot guided Ipswich to fifth place in 2000/01.

It's not like they've punhced massively above their weight and reached that 4th spot. Had we been half decent they wouldnt even be there.

Roy deserves for sure. To take a team like Fulham to the finals beating the holders, German Champions,Juventus on the road is a very very laudable effort.

'Arry' is so 'poplar' amongst the FA's circle!

I think harry has done a fantastic job there, it's all good and well saying they spent loads if cash but city spent **** loads more. It's not just about the money, you can't buy team spirit or belief and that's something harry has instilled in the team, he has them playing fantastic football and had the balls to come out and "play" ball with the big boys from the first game. I think both harry and spurs deserve it, good on them.

To say otherwise is just sour grapes imo.

Harry is Rafa's bum boy. He'd do an orgy with him.

Punching above our weight!? We've got a pretty comprehensive squad and although we've spent a bit, we've done so remaining profitable and pay our players an honest amount. I think only 2 of them are on more than 60k p/w.

Although hodgson is a contender, getting 4th spot is over the course of a whole season and includes more games than the Europa league. This award has been given by the sponsers of the premier league, not Europa league.

So if Spurs aren't punching above their weight, why has Redknapp got the award?

It's all just a load of bollocks imo....he's instilled **** all, he took over a side of players that were blatantly refusing to play for the manager, he's bound to do ok when those players were hanging out for a reason to absolve themselves of blame by suddenly playing for 'Arry', and so showing the world it wasn't their fault but the old managers, shameful behaviour imo, i won't rush to judge 'Arry' as manger just yet...lets see how he performs when expected to put in a Champions league, Premiership and dometic cup challenge season in season out.

Its a Barclays thing, spurs had a lot of things fall for them this season.
We have been piss poor, city still cant buy the right players with the biggest budget in world football, and Harry should be going for his involvements with "other" stuff in football.

Lets see what the qualifiers throw up and how he can take them forward to challenge to actually win anything.

It is a sad indicator of modern football that finishing fourth is classed as an achievement!

The key point here I feel.

It also qualifies the 2001 award not going to Houllier, notwithstanding our conspiracy theories.
                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Considering the award is given by the Premiership sponsors it's probably awarded for achievement in the League rather than what's happened in a European competition, hence why it was given to 'Arry.

IMO for Fulham's overall season/achievements Hodgson deserves some recognition. Is there a Football Writers Manager of the Year award? If there is RH deserves to win that.

Agree...Hodgson would have been a far worthier winner, no doubt about it for me.

I don't see the corralation between punching above our weight and earning success to what the award has been given for. To me it implies we don't deserve it, which IMO isn't te case.
