With Gerrard the most advanced, supporting Rooney.
'Advanced' and 'Rooney' in the same sentence?

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Thing that annoys me most about Johnson not going is that although a bit early days for him he looks the sort of player that could sit in the middle when needed and swap with Gerrard on the right when needed but then I guess he wasn't going to start anyway.

Yep, that. Sort of a halfway house between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-1-4-1 ....I'd have Lennon, Gerrard and Joe Cole as the main trio behind Rooney, with Lampard in the space behind that line and in front of Barry.

Edit - except I'd have James in ahead of Hart.

I think the issue is that Heskey, while not scoring, has still done far more in terms of play for England than Bent has even looked capable of doing. There is more than just scoring even when you are playing up front.

Yeah Bent's made no impression whatsoever, while Heskey has been a really good foil for Rooney. He's done it for Capello, Bent hasn't and that's that.

To be fair, look at the 'games' in which Bent had the opportunity to make an impression.

                  Which 'games' were they?

I do feel a bit sorry for Bent, 20 odd goals compared to the Villa substitute's 3 (!), but like I said...

Bent is a goal scorer but he is definitely not an Intl' level footballer.

He just doesnt force the issue when he's given the ball and he has two three players surrounding him etc. He just passes it and goes into the box.

You need your strikers to sometimes take on the defenders rather than just pass it and move into the box.

Bent is ****e at footie but can score goals. I would have him in my starting eleven to feed off Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney scraps.

There's no place for him alongside Rooney and Intl football is very very different from the Premier League and the defenders in England arent the brightest in my books.

That's the point, he played in that stupid friendly against brazil in qatar, and that's basically it.

Similarly, Warnock played no part in either of the two recent friendlies, yet he's in.

Capello's either lost the plot, or on a sabotage mission.

Why is there no place alongside Rooney, he could with someone to take defenders away from him and make space.

I dont think Internatioaln football is a higher standard than the prem. I think all intl teams would struggle in the prem.
