Haha. It is. As I said if you are playing Bent and Rooney, Rooney wont be that effective esp with Stevie playing on the left.

May be because Heskey is actually better with the long ball and closing in on the opponents.

There's a reason why Heskey has always been preferred to others to partner Rooney. That's how Capello sees the England team.

They anyway dont play free flowing footy. So the best option is to lump it to Heskey and let other players get behind.

Heskey and Rooney as a pair and Rooney and Crouch as a pair is what I see as England's best option.

Rooney and Defoe arent great either

To challenge for the ball/hold it and wait for Rooney when we inevitably resort to route 1 hoof ball.

Clearly England did well in the qualifiers with him in the starting XI.

I know you've been wanting Bent in the team all along but Bent wouldnt provide a different dimension to what Defoe or Crouch provide.

Heskey has been tried and tested. So, a safe bet IMO.

At least you see what I've been trying to say. Not the best of football to watch, but England, over the years, has been good at it

Crouch can do that AND score goals.

And if he's injured? there's no other option for Capello and that's why Heskey's in there.

You might be surprised but Crouch is actually better with his feet than with his head IMO.

Oh, the qualifiers when they had to face such world beaters as teams of the ilk of Andorra, Belarus and Kazakhstan?

                      Heskey's absolute turd.

The same kinda teams they failed to beat and qualify for the Euros?

Craig, the thing is Int'l managers like to have a set of players who operate more under the instructions they give/want the team to play.

Heskey has fitted well into Capello's plans.

It's the same for Germany too. Leow is comfortable with Podolski and Klose as Forwards for Germany and both of them have been horrible over the last two yrs but they surprisingly do well for the National team.

Same with Heskey. He fits Capello's ideas unlike Bent.

I can understand the big man, holding the ball up thing - that's fine.

But there are others who do it AND score goals. Crouch, Carlton Cole, Zamora etc.

Say what you like about being inexperienced, but both Cole and Zamora score goals and hold up the ball well. Heskey doesnt even get into Villa's side. He doesnt score goals, he doesnt worry defenders and is zero threat.

That is "you" seeing it, NOT Mr.Capello

Cole has been given a couple of chances upfront and he hasnt impressed and he dint make the whole team look good in shape either, which is what Heskey generally did whenever he played.

Zamora would have been fine but he said he's been on injection since Jan and cant take it anymore.

Of the four strikers picked, Crouch does that and that's why I like him to start alongside Rooney too but if Crouch is injured mid tourney what next then? Heskey has been picked solely for that reason is what I believe.

Moreover Capello has been seeing him(Heskey) in training and in games for over two yrs now. So he can have a fair estimate as to what Heskey really brings to the team unlike us.

What you see for the club at times is not what you see for the Country.
