If your country did not qualify...

Who will you support? Me (Republic of Ireland), will be supporting Spain. They're a great team and I like to see the best team win - and there's Liverpool interest too. I don't mind England as long as they don't win it - although the jingoistic tripe often makes me want them to exit the WC asap. France be damned!!

*******For my own perverse pleasure please state who you ordinarily support******

Spain - obviously. Then either the Argies (because of Mascher) or Brazil (because I was mesmerised by them in 1982 WC).

Aye, I'd love to see Spain win it - like most of there players and obviously want to see Torres and Reina enjoy a bit of much deserved success.

I'll not lose any sleep if they don't win it though.

I do think England have a decent chance of going all the way..mainly due to Capello.. and they're due a bit of luck in a major tournament.

Overall i just hope for an exciting World Cup with some good quality football being played

Definitely not Brazil. Nothing against them and admire their football but hate all the clearly English/Irish/Scot pricks wandering around with a Brazil shirt on every time a WC comes around.

I normally follow Turkey (gf) and Czech Republic (best mate) which aren't in and also like to watch Paraguay, South Korea and Japan.

But that said my country did qualify so I'll be supporting England.

I must say I'm more excited by this world cup than usual. Perhaps that's because I think there's a good chance England won't embarrass themselves but maybe it's also because we've had such a terrible season.

Makes you realise why so many of the most fervent England fans (seem to) come from small clubs - it's an escape, something to get excited about and, in a way, it doesn't really matter, you just go along for the ride.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

That's a good point, never really thought of it like that.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. While everything was going to **** with Liverpool I was saying to myself as soon as the season is over I can relax and enjoy the World Cup.

That's exactly it for me, can't wait for it for that reason. Haven't enjoyed football for about 12 months now.

England and Finland are my teams, but the Finns never qualify for major competitions.

Greece should start the WC with a 10 point penalty for going into administration.

I'll be getting pissed watching Engerland, hoping they win, but knowing deep down they wont. (i am over 35 ;o)

I hope Germany, Italy & France fail early & the last four comprise:
                          Holland
                          Brazil,
                          Engerland
                          Spain

I want Holland to win so that after the tournament we can sell Babel and Kuyt for a combined fee of £50m

I'm English, but have always had a soft spot for Denmark since watching that incredible team in the 80's
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet
