I think playing Germany is a good thing. The group didn't challenge the team and everything was done at a snails pace. Facing Germany will be the wake up call and I think we were more likely to get knocked out by Ghana by believing they were not a proper challenge than Germany who they know is going to be a seriously tough game.

Totally agree, I am convinced this route is better for England. Not easier, obviously, but better. They always play better against the better sides and are always liable to slip up against weaker sides - as evidenced in the group games.

I dont see that at all, just a rubbish cliche imo. Especially considering England's history against tough teams, they basically get through the group then go out to the first tough team they play. Theres no way playing Germany and Argentina is better than Ghana and Uruguay. They're capable of beating both still but theres just no way on earth this draw is better for England, that just doesnt make any sense at all.

In fairness all Anelka did was tell his manager to **** off and then refused to apologies for it.

Terry on the other hand told assorted media from all over the world that he does not think the players that his manager has picked up until this point are good enough and who he should be picking in the next game.

Terry was also kind enough to point out that he and other members of the England team have issues with the way Capello was running things in SA and that he, Terry, was going to confront Capello about them during a team meeting.

Short of refusing to play again for the manager there's not much more Terry could have done to undermine Capello.
