Another sequence you'll probably remember well Shaggy - the BBC's 'road to the final' for Italia 90. Barry Davies commentary for the Cameroon goal against Argentina is iconic!

"Omam-Biyik....OHHHH HE'S SCORED!!! And the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium is an UNBELIEVABLE sight!!!"

Very recent, that one...compared to 86 and the like

Brilliant goal and lovely to see the early incarnation of Dean Windass describing it

            You know what i mean

Scary that it was 16 years ago.

I've always said, when you can comfortably and vividly remember things that happened 20 or more years ago, you're getting old.

My earliest football memories were from 1986

Mine too. Chelsea at Stamford Bridge when King Kenny scored the winner and the first Merseyside FA Cup Final.

And the World Cup of course!

Without any shadow of doubt, this is my favourite goal of ALL TIME!!!

Carlos Alberto v Italy, WC Final 1970 (if you look carefully you can see Neil Young and Fredo holding hands in the second row behind the goal):

And in 1982 my first memories of the greatest team not to win the WC:

                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I remember that so vividly. In my minds eye he was about 65 yards out (I was 8 at the time) and so every time I see it now I'm always a bit disappointed. At the time I'd never seen a goal like that before.

Similarly Norman Whiteside's against Everton in the 85 Cup Final. I remember it as being curled into the corner from just inside the touchline. Like, miles out. Suffice to say it wasn't.

                      Another World Cup moment...

                      RIP IRWT post/rant, best ever

Special team. Watching that compilation again I just wish I was old enough at the time to absorb and fully appreciate how good they actually were. Bloody Paolo Rossi!!
