What next for England's Golden Generation ?

I know its nowt to do with us directly but what do you think ?

Ive heard capello say we were tired and that's why the players didnt perform but surely it cant be that.

The whole english set up is geared towards the money making monster that is the Premier League. Can england ever do well when our top players are playing 50 -60 games a season including the CL and where's the next lot of players ?

If england are reliant on players like huddlestone and milner then they are well and truly ****ed for a generation.

of all those players there isnt any Rooney's or any Gerrard's, there isnt a player who has had a break out season under 20 to already be classified as nearly top class. I think its a worry when the best player there sits on the bench for everton (Jack Rodwell), mind you i can see wilshire having a big season next year

I think looking for top level talents like Gerrard and Rooney is to somewhat miss the point. For example the German squad is mostly made of technically and tactically adept players willing and able to play as a team. No one is claiming Khedira is as good as Ballack.

Ozil, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Merterzaker, Klose and Podolski have all been around and done it a club level.

Lahm and the Pig Sticker have been top, dare I say, world class players in their positions for several years.

I am pretty sure that the players from Inter, Barcelona and Bayern have played quite a few games over the last season. Inter won the treble and Bayern almost got there, you have to play many games to get there. As has been pointed out, many WC players also play in England, something like 7-12 players each from the top 4 sides, and Liverpool.

Somewhere I heard that some players are getting too much money nowadays for their club football so that it devalues the international game. The Champions League is what matters to them not national footy. The players are supposedly not motivated enough to play against other players who are not at the top end, e.g. Algeria, Slovenia.

The thing is though player for player the first XIs of a combined England/Germany squad would be a pretty even mix of the two nations. They spanked us and have been consistently good on the world stage. Klose and Podolski have often had spotty club record but come good as part of the national team.

We will still have some players (like Cole and Rooney) with top talent who will complement any influx of youth.

Schweinsteiger has converted to a new position in recent season and only then really become a top class player in my opinion which offers hope for the development of many of the players we have later in their careers.

The point is largely that a player looking great at 18 is not the same as a player developing to be a really top player. The lack of anyone in any given U21 squad who people go 'wow' about is not necessarily indicative of anything about the future development of the national team.

i do hope that now the 'golden generation' have mostly had there day, maybe there will be less expectancy on the next lot.

so similar to the Liverpool squad though. unsure who to play on the wings and a core of genuine talent with an awful lot of mediocrity backing it up!!

This 'Golden Generation' tag is perhaps more relevant as a reference to their bank balances.

As for expectancy I'm pretty sure our loving media will soon coin a phrase for the next generation and set the pressure cooker to simmer.

Two planes landed yesterday, one with 23 overpaid under acheiving prima donnas and the other with seven coffins on board draped in the union jack. Hero is an over used word these days, but I know who I'd class as the real heros of this country! RIP to the fallen soliders and deepest sympathies to thier families!
