As Ballague pointed out recently, City are trying to acquire players of a level that is above their's as a club. They have no CL football to convince these players to go to Eastlands, so what else can they use as a sweetner? Well, obviously all they have to offer is money, and bags of it. So that's what they're doing.

As V has pointed out, it remains fairly amusing that for all their utterly obscene spending, they still barely have a world class player in their squad.

It's sickening to see that they splurging money like there is no tomorrow and we on the other hand can barely scrape lousy £12M transfer budget and consider bringing one decent player if we are lucky. Utterly disgusting and truly disappointing..

Just thinking about David Silva, and how good he is, and how Rafa wanted him, among others!

Then i wonder what if, and how bad is the damage H&G inflicted on this great club!

We were at the time they came in, and for a couple of seasons after considered to be one of the top clubs in europe, we could have attracted players like Silva etc, and done it before the emergence of certain other clubs who've now stolen a huge march on us.

Pair of ******s! I hate what they did to this club.

Interesting this. Now they're in the CL, have attracted world class players and could push on to one of the best teams in Europe. If only we'd hung on in there, replaced Xabi with a proper player and come 4th, not 7th. Ah well, spilt milk and that.

Yeah, and all done on a shoestring, because they were really thrifty before they got into the Champions league were'nt they.

Or not had to replace Xabi at all.

              I still miss him

Back on topic though, I'm now gutted we never got Silva.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He's exploded into a world class player. Twice the player he was at Valencia, similarly to Torres' surge when he came here.

Well he's now playing in a better side (just like Torres), it stands to reason he'd be even better. He's a wonderful footballer, amazed it's taken so long for so many to cotton on.

I remember him playing for Spain, which is as good a side as any, and he did nothing close to what he's doing now. He could disappear from the game completely, now he's dominating.

                          Clearly not

re Spain, he's never been a regular for them, always in and out of the side (more often 'out'). Even then you could see his class when called up, he played well whenever picked in Euro 2008 (and he was only 23 then), scoring in the semis IIRC.

Improved out of sight. I also saw an interview where he said that defences in England are easier to open up because of the tempo and obsession with closing players down leaving lots of spaces.

Clearly he's in better company with a better manager, but it's not like he was playing with horrible players at Valencia. At one stage it was him, Mata, Joaquin and Villa making up the top 4. With Banega behind them. No one can doubt the quality of those players. He has grown brilliantly personally, it cannot be underestimated. Reading over the post I made earlier in the thread reminds me of the player he used to be.

Also the Spain example is testament to that.
